About Me

No matter the context or role, I always find myself accompanying others toward threshold moments. My 30+ years as a bi-vocational pastor provides a unique reservoir of experience from which to offer spiritual accompaniment in everyday life and work. I have served in a variety of frontline leadership roles as a pastor-teacher, chaplain, spiritual director, Ignatian retreat guide, and in business as a packaging sales representative, peer mentor and work-life coach.

In midlife, I updated my seminary education, earning a Doctor of Ministry degree in transformational leadership. My dissertation project made the case for a major reframing and paradigm shift in Christian formation and mission. It's purpose: to create a biblical teaching resource for experiential learning that would help form missionary disciples in every day life and work, bearing witness to Jesus. During this time, my prayer life was significantly transformed by the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola and studies in improvisation.

I trained as a Spiritual Director in the tradition of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola with SEEL of Puget Sound, after having been informally mentored for several years in the practice of spiritual direction by a Jesuit priest. Ignatian spiritual direction is cultivating the art of discernment, that is to hear and recognize the voice of Jesus through Scripture and prayer. This leads to freedom, clarity, and focus for life and ministry, along with confidence to act in accordance with God’s leading. . . so you may be able to discern what is best. . . (Philippians 1:9-10; Luke 24:13-32, John 10:27)

I wear Luke-Acts Improv lenses like an actor on an improv stage finding his place in the story. “Luke-Acts Improv” is a metaphor for reframing our lives in the transformative drama of the biblical story. This Gospel frame helps set the stage to see God in all things; to notice, listen, and discern where God may be at work.

I am also a trained Ignatian retreat guide for the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life.

In recent years, my experience has been significantly impacted by becoming a Benedictine Oblate, at Westminster Abbey, Mission, BC, Canada. The Benedictine Rule, with its spirituality of work, has a great deal to offer the individual grappling with issues of work-life balance.

It’s a joy to be able to offer these streams of living water in Christ to support and encourage others, “that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-3)

My focus in spiritual direction is helping others become more self-aware and God-aware. SD sessions offer a sacred, spacious space for the directee to slow down and be present to him/herself and to God. I provide compassionate listening as the directee shares the confusing and confounding experiences of their lives. Together, we bring the directee’s questions and hurts before God and wait for the Spirit’s gifts of wisdom, healing and hope. We often end our sessions by resting in God and considering his invitation.

In my earlier years I served within the church and taught at a university. My own experience of waking up and going deeper led me to complete spiritual direction training through Christos in Minneapolis in 2016. Accompanying others in their healing journey is my “sweet spot” and such a privilege. I have a natural bent toward contemplative practices like silence and solitude and love to facilitate those times for others, so I lead weekend contemplative retreats 2-3 times a year (since 2012). Major influences are Ruth Haley Barton, Dallas Willard, John Mark Comer, David Benner, and Henri Nouwen. I am also profoundly influenced by being a wife (39 years), mother of three and grandmother to eight.

I like to think of the spiritual life as a garden, full of seasons and cycles. It's my great joy to come along side others to listen and to notice what God is growing in them and to be reminded of his loving care. While I enjoy holding space for anyone, I particularly enjoy being present to pastors, ministry leaders and people going through liminal space and transition. As a global citizen who has lived in, traveled through and worked with ministries in over 50 countries, I also enjoy holding space for expats who live between worlds.

My work as a documentary filmmaker and producer of the Betwixt Podcast explores the liminal spaces where transformation happens. My academic background is in Biblical Studies, Old Testament, Archaeology and Communications. While I continue to love these topics, the best education I have received was through the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction.

It's my joy to offer individual direction, group direction, facilitate clearness committees and community discernment processes, teach, and lead contemplative prayer and retreats. I am also certified to teach the enneagram, lead the Ignatian Exercises and offer training for individuals, groups, and leaders. I am also a trained labyrinth facilitator.

I was active in prayer ministry and Bible studies at my church for many years but felt the need to go deeper in my relationship with God, so I began spiritual direction. In that sacred space, I grew in awareness of God’s presence with me as I learned spiritual discernment. We all need companions on our faith journey, and I consider it a joy to accompany others in spiritual direction. I was missioned as a Spiritual Director in April 2022 after three years of formation at the Lanteri Center for Ignatian Spirituality in Denver, CO.
My worship experience has been in evangelical and liturgical churches, and I am comfortable in both. I have a strong biblical foundation, and in spiritual direction the emphasis is on one’s relationship with God, providing a more complete experience of Him which I hope to share with others as part of soul care.
I am an active outdoors woman and enjoy hiking. I have been married 49 years and have four children with ten grandchildren, the joy of our lives!

As a spiritual director I am a listening and prayerful companion for people as they journey with God. He loves you deeply and desires for you to become even more aware and see ways to respond to His loving presence in your everyday experiences of life. I would be honored to share this time and space with you.

I am a ministry wife, a former school teacher, and a mother of 4 adult children. Life-giving activities for me include being outside - whether I’m walking, running, or sitting quietly on the patio. I find God speaks to me in unique ways through His creation.

As my children grew and left the “nest,” I began a period of discernment to see ways God might be calling me in the next season of life. At that time, I sensed a call to receive training to become a Spiritual Director. I completed a two-year training program to become a certified Spiritual Director through the Institute of Christian Spirituality which is a part of Lipscomb University.

My areas of experience thus far is with women, though I am open to offering direction to men. Most of my experience has been with mothers of children of all ages. I am visually impaired and unable to drive. This has impacted my own journey with God and I believe can be particularly helpful to you if you are dealing with physical limitations in your own life. Finally, if you are near the season where your children are leaving the “nest,” I’d be eager to be a companion for you as you discern what opportunities and invitations God has for you, as I have recently journeyed through such a season and I discovered God in fresh ways.

About Me

I felt the call to complete the training for Spiritual Direction in 2015 when I was stepping out of social work and wanted to pursue a vocation in which my faith and a personal understanding of the God who comes close would be front and center. I’ve seen the restorative work of the Lord in my own life and have found freedom and abundant life through the work of the Holy Spirit, particularly through my own experience in direction. I believe that He wants to meet us in whatever way we need him and do more than we can “ask or imagine”.

The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises were a gift to me as I was processing my personal experience with spiritual abuse. As I sat with the Lord daily, He showed me that He wants to be my Shepherd and Guide. Through my practice as a director, I’ve seen Him make himself readily available to others as they pursue that same intimate relationship with the Trinity. In our current cultural moment, the revelation of the Holy Spirit and discernment is vital to walking a life of faith. This is why I pursued and completed the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises Accompaniment training. Ignatian spirituality offers timeless rules for discernment and the Exercises are transformational in pursuing a life of service with Christ. I have borne witness to the freedom that comes through spiritual direction and completing the Exercises and it is a privilege to join with the Lord through this restorative work.

After practicing spiritual direction for 7 years, and noticing a desire to go deeper in this practice, I returned to Sustainable Faith to be trained as a supervisor. I believe that we have a responsibility as well as the privilege of addressing areas of unfreedom in our own lives as directors for the benefit of the "absent other", our directees. This is why I have participated in two different forms of supervision (peer and individual) throughout my practice and encourage others to do the same.

My desire as a supervisor is to accompany spiritual directors in their practice and co-discern the movements of God within them as they sit with their directees. God's invitation towards greater freedom often presents itself within our vocation as spiritual directors and if we move toward this freedom, our directees benefit from the ripple effects.

Hello!

I have been a pastor for 16 years and a spiritual director for 6 years.
I studied at Talbot Seminary which is the graduate school of Biola University and was trained in their Spiritual Formation and Soul Care program.
I work now as a family pastor in San Diego CA, and a adjunct staff at Biola University in their Spiritual Formation program.

I am passionate about the local church being a space and place for people to process their relationship with God and their relationship with others.
I hope to be help to the skeptical to the church goers, members, and pastors as we journey together with Christ, through the Holy Spirit, by the love and power of our heavenly Father.

I have received a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at Talbot Seminary with further training in Ignatian Spirituality at Loyola Institute for Spirituality, Orange, CA. I have served as a spiritual director since 2003. I offer standard direction as well as direction through Ignatian Spiritual Exercises 19th Annotation. I am currently taking directees for both individual direction and Ignatian 19th Annotation. It is one of the joys of my life to companion others in their spiritual journeys, as they grow in their knowledge and love of Christ.

I have lived in & around Atlanta almost my whole life. I am married to my cherished wife Wendy, and we have a precious teenage daughter. My hobbies include reading & watching movies, but my real joy is found in just spending time with my family.

I was a bi-vocational pastor for 25 years. I was ordained in the Christian Church, but served in pastoral positions in Christian, United Methodist, Baptist, and non-denominational churches. My secular job is as an electrical engineering manager, and I also teach Spiritual Direction at North Park Seminary in Chicago. I offer spiritual direction & supervision to both sisters and brothers in Christ and anyone else who desires to grow closer to God.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, a Master's degree in Theological Studies from Emory University, & a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation degree from Ashland Theological Seminary, in addition to being a graduate of the Renovaré Institute for Christian Spiritual Formation. I received my training as a spiritual director and supervisor at North Park Theological Seminary.

Beginning in 2014, I had the privilege of jointly creating, then co-directing with Dr. Sharon Rowland, the Graduate Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction at Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta. In addition to offering spiritual direction, I currently teach spiritual direction at North Park Theological Seminary. I am the author of "The Way We See: Kingdom Paradigms and Christian Formation," which teaches a unique, biblically-based spiritual practice termed Kingdom Paradigms that aids not only in deepening one’s intimacy with God but also invites Christ-followers to actually live in the present goodness of God’s Kingdom more fully and consistently. I also created a personal assessment tool for spiritual formation.

It is my call and my joy to be a “friend of the Bridegroom.” It is my privilege to walk alongside others and assist them as they discern God’s voice and go ever deeper in their intimacy with God through Jesus Christ.

I have a passion to journey with leaders who long to be who God has made them to be and to do what God has created them to do. That passion flows from my own experience as a leader and from over 25 years of experience working with leaders in Africa.

In direction, I offer myself as a non-anxious presence who helps leaders pay attention to the presence, the work and the word of Christ in their life. As we journey, I offer a safe space where they can explore God’s invitations and grow in awareness. As a fellow journeyer, I help leaders find grace and courage through Jesus, to respond well.

About Me

Becoming a spiritual director seemed to be the natural next step for me in my own spiritual journey, but also the next step in serving others. I had been in some form of educational vocation and leadership for years in elementary school, middle school, homeschool, women’s Bible studies, and small group studies. During those years I took training in lay counseling and mentored both students and adults. I was not in a denomination that emphasized spiritual direction, but after studying the early church fathers, desert spirituality, and some of the Christian Mystics I became curious.

In 2010 I took myself on a silent retreat. While planning for that retreat I felt the need for direction, wisdom from someone who had walked this path before. I was hard pressed to find someone who had any experience with a silent retreat. The Lord truly met me during that four day retreat. Part of the way He met me was through the couple who directed the little retreat center I found in central Indiana. I did not know it at the time, but they acted as spiritual directors for me. They listened intently to me, asked questions, listened to God on my behalf, and spoke love and compassion. It was a truly amazing experience and not like anything I had ever experienced before.

That retreat was the beginning of my journey toward discerning my calling and becoming a spiritual director. The experiences of the nearness of presence of God, someone else to listen to God with me and for me, and words of love and understanding touched me deeply. I wanted to help others find this place of deep connection with God and exploration of their place in God as the beloved.

In 2016 I was accepted into the Spiritual Direction Internship at Benedict Inn and Retreat Center in Beech Grove, Indiana. I graduated in 2018 and have been practicing spiritual direction out of my home since then.

I qualified as a SoulCollage® Facilitator in 2019 out of a desire to bring the creative arts into my practice. I have continued my education as a spiritual director through retreats and seminars at Benedict Inn and through Spiritual Directors International. I have designed and directed retreats on Thomas Merton, SoulCollage®, as well as for not for profit groups. I do group spiritual direction through a narrative group and lead a group in contemplative living centered on the writings of Thomas Merton. In April 2022 I completed 30 hours of training on companioning the bereaved taught by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt PH. D., founder of the Center for Loss and Life Transition.
