I am a mom, gammy, and avid coffee lover who enjoys listening to people's stories, engaging in long conversations, and going for walks. One of my favorite pastimes is "twalking" (talking while walking), and I have recently taken up pickleball with my husband, who is a college basketball coach. I am his biggest fan, and the girls on his team affectionately call me mama J. "Go Falcons!"

Spiritual direction has profoundly impacted my own life and has now become an essential part of my life as well. During a very difficult season of grief my spiritual director helped me embrace my emotions and experience God's presence amidst the deep sadness and hurt. Through her attentive and nonjudgmental listening, I felt safe to stop, feel, and listen for God's voice. I was given time and space to share my questions, sadness, anger and fears. This spiritual direction journey has opened my soul up in a new and beautiful way, revealing the transformative power of God's love in my life. He can do the same for you.

It fills with me with great joy to help people in all walks of life grow in their faith and draw closer to Jesus. My role as a spiritual director is to create space to meet Jesus, listen for His voice, and to invite Him to be our guide. This is often done through prayer, silence, spiritual exercises and intentional listening. Whether you are grappling with questions or doubts, in a season of transition or grief, or looking to deepen your relationship with God, I would be honored to join you on this journey.

I have had the privilege of serving in various ministry roles over the years including youth pastor, college chaplain, women’s mentoring and discipleship director, retreat speaker, and Bible study leader. I am also available to lead/facilitate a spiritual direction retreat.

I would love to listen together with you and walk alongside you as you navigate your spiritual path.

I believe that we live in a culture that desires our attention, and, as the writer Matthew Crawford puts it, “attention is a resource -- we only have so much of it.” The Christian mystic Simone Weil viewed attention not as a “muscular effort,” but rather a passive, open waiting. As faithful Christians, we must learn to cultivate that resource of attention, and properly focus it on our creator and savior. We cannot hope to hear and respond to God in a world that seeks to steal our attention at every turn without developing our ability to be attentive, to wait. Spiritual direction provides a means to cultivate our attention, our capacity for open, passive waiting, and direct it toward our Creator.

Hi! I'm Eliza, a trauma-informed Spiritual Director, therapist in training, and aspiring good-enoughist. I love helping tired people-pleasers rediscover their authentic self and let go of religious shame, church hurt, and spiritual trauma.

As a late-diagnosed autistic person with PTSD, I know how religious shame and trauma can cause us to people-please, mask, and create a wall; affecting our ability to draw close to God as our true, authentic self. I take a deeply affirming, whole-person approach; offering Spiritual Direction through a trauma informed lens and with underpinnings in somatic awareness, integrative parts work, imaginative prayer, and therapeutic art. When I'm not in sessions, I can be found working toward becoming a licensed therapist, making messy art, or tending to my own soul.

MY SPIRITUAL VIEWS

As an autistic mystic, my own spiritual experience is expansive, curious, imaginative, and free. I do not limit God, my spiritual life, or my work as a spiritual director to a set of religious constructs. This opens everything up wide; allowing God to draw close and in deeply profound, beautiful ways: in heavy sighs, holy tears, and the long pauses in between, in art and poetry, and in people all around.

I honor the unique and individual ways that God is drawing close to others and consciously work to offer my clients the same things I offer myself: authenticity, empathy, non-judgment, and freedom to be.

Dave entered the counseling field as a Licensed Professional Counselor over 20 years ago through both an invitation and a calling. God led him into deeper personal healing and a greater experience of His presence and grace. This is when Dave felt called to create healing spaces for others and to equip those called to the healing ministry of Jesus as a Spiritual Director.

Viewing his work as both missional and spiritually formative, Dave integrates psychology, counseling, theology, and spiritual formation. He serves as a spiritual companion to those in need of deep healing from trauma, suffering, sexual challenges, and addiction, offering a safe and sacred space for transformation.

To effectively serve, Dave pursued advanced training in trauma therapy, sex therapy, Gestalt therapy, and spiritual direction and formation. His education and experience culminated in the SIIMDA Soul Care model, an integrative approach that fosters deep healing. His dissertation fine-tuned this model, emphasizing the intersection of psychology, theology, spiritual formation and Christian healing.

As a passionate educator, Dave teaches and trains others in soul care. His dedication led to the development of the SIIMDA Soul Care model and training program, empowering others in this ministry. He also leads healing retreats, where he witnesses the Holy Spirit’s work in bringing freedom and restoration to those suffering from deep wounds and trauma.

What do you get when you combine a teacher, a coach, a 911 dispatcher, and an event planner with the practice of spiritual direction? You get me, Rhonda Jenkins!

As I completed my certification in spiritual direction through the Transformational Listening Center, I reflected on all of my experiences and careers and noticed where God had been preparing me to be a listener! I wouldn't have been a good teacher or coach, an effective 911 dispatcher, or a hospitality professional if I did not listen well. God has refined my gift of listening and has deepened my passion for noticing where God is present in the lives of others.

My passion for spiritual direction was ignited even more when I participated in The Ignatian Journey, A Contemporary Approach to the Spiritual Exercises. After completing the 32-week journey, I was offered the opportunity to walk alongside others, in small groups and individually as they committed themselves to prayer to experience intimacy with God. For many it's the first time they've personally encountered God's deep and abiding love.

I'm also drawn to hold space for weary ministry leaders and those who are humble and curious about the interior movements of God in their relationship with Him. I am also very passionate about creating group listening experiences and retreats and would be honored to collaborate with you to offer guidance in the spiritual practices of slowing, silence, solitude and stillness in a group or retreat setting.

My husband and I and our Labrador retriever moved from the Chicago suburbs to the Dallas suburbs in 2020 and are actively engaged in ministry at our church, serving as small group leaders and spiritual companions.

I completed Spiritual Direction training through Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in Minneapolis in 2023. Since then, I have offered spiritual direction in-person and and on-line.

My family and I have lived in Kathmandu, Nepal since 2018 where I walk and pray alongside emerging Nepali church leaders. Previously I pastored a church in Iowa and grew vegetables for our community.

Renaissance The Way llc offers "Spiritual Formation for Gospel Proclamation" through Ministry, Arts & Nature. We incorporate these by using the Word, prayer and other exercises to care for people's souls, as we seek God together in listening to what the Holy Spirit is doing in/through and around each person, until each of us is built up into the image and stature of Christ. (Ephesians 4). It is our hope that we will see a Renaissance (rebirth, revival) in the lives of those we serve, so that they will be able to care for those that they serve. In this we believe that Jesus is The Way, The Truth & The Life. (John 14:6).

Having compassion for people and helping them establish healthy practices in caring for their own souls is a passion, a gift, and a calling for me. Soul care is needed more than ever in these difficult times.

I am especially interested in caring for educators, ministry staff and those in life transitions. I have served children, youth, college students and young adults for 28 years in ministry and education. And through my own challenges I have been a care giver to a wife with a terminal illness that led to her death (but healing in Christ).

Over the last several years I acquired certificates in spiritual formation, advanced spiritual formation and spiritual direction from Moody Bible Institute, under the direction of (Ray & Nancy Kane | Discover the Pathways to Hope, Healing and Love (raynancykane.com) & (About - The Caritas Center).

I am also continuing the pursuit of an M.A. Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. God has been preparing me, teaching me, and refining me during this season of my life. God always redeems seasons of trial and hardship. In Christ there is always HOPE!

My favorite image of a spiritual director is that of a midwife: one who listens and tenderly attends to the birthing process of new life that God desires to give each of us. I like to create a safe place for people to connect with God, to grow in intimacy with Jesus, and to be held in the Father’s loving embrace.

Spiritual direction is about prayerful attention. Instead of offering advice or attempting to solve a problem, my role as a spiritual director is to help you notice the movement of God in your life and assist you in perceiving the deep stirrings and longings in your spirit. My ministry is one of listening, with one ear tuned to the Holy Spirit and the other tuned to your story. No agenda. No achievement plan. Just time and place set apart to draw near to the living God. Throughout this process it is the Holy Spirit who is the ultimate director.

Are there things churning inside you that you are not sure how to process? Do you need perspective? Do you desire to see light and to feel hope? If so, it would be an honor to be with you, to pay attention to what God is doing in your life, and to dialogue with you about how you may want to respond to God’s invitations.

I participated in the three-year spiritual direction program at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California, completing it in 2002. I have worked as a spiritual director in para-church as well as church settings, and while living among the poor and marginalized during a long period of inner-city ministry. I have worked in retreat direction and in the training and supervision of spiritual directors. I live in San Francisco with my husband of 30 years and our friendly dog, who accompanies me on many of my favorite walks. We have two adult daughters. Our younger daughter is affected by Down syndrome and a passionate dancer. I enjoy finding God in nature, walking with friends, dance, yoga, reading, traveling, and sharing meals from around the world with friends and family.

Ministry, whether paid or volunteer, presents challenges which can be overwhelming. If a Christian leader does not take special care of their soul, they will likely succumb to the pressures of leadership. They will feel alone, inadequate, down, depressed, isolated or just plain disoriented. Do any of those ideas resonate with you?

My heart is to come alongside those leaders in ministry settings and give them someone safe to listen to their story. So that Jesus will not be someone to work for, but with someone who ministry is done with! I specialize in working with pastors and church leaders who are experiencing difficulty in their ministry. It is a joy to walk with someone as they discover how to discern the movements of the Holy Spirit and identify the seasons of their spiritual growth. I graduated from Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO and received an MA in Christian Formation and Soul Care from Denver Seminary in 2011. I’ve been an ordained pastor since 1996 and served in a variety of states and positions (Youth Pastor, Associate, Discipleship and Sr Pastor) within the local church. I am currently a Professor at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, KS, while continuing in a Doctorate of Ministry program at Denver Seminary.

Because Jesus promised to never leave or forsake us, it follows that He has been present in every moment of our lives. In the beautiful moments and the ones that have left scars, He has been there. I have been privileged to journey with individuals who desire to experience God's presence in their lives, even in the quiet, empty, and/or seemingly detached seasons. My training at the Institute for Spiritual Formation at the Talbot School of Theology grounded my understanding and practice of spiritual direction. Through deep listening and gentle questioning, with silence and with prayer, in spiritual practices and Scripture, I offer adults a Holy-Spirited space to pour out their hearts to God. As we dwell together in God’s embrace, I assist directees to open their hearts to God’s compassionate response. My ministry of spiritual direction and retreat leadership is grounded in extensive learning through Journey Partners spiritual direction training, the spiritual formation certification programs of the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the Institute for Discipleship, and more than two decades as a practitioner. An ordained United Methodist deacon, I was an editor and essayist for the anthology, Embodied Spirits: Stories of Spiritual Directors of Color. About Me

As a Christian and Spiritual Director, I am passionate about living life with God, not just the hard parts, but the parts where we sit down and eat breakfast, wash dishes and walk to the mailbox. But yes, also the times when we’re tired, confused, hurt and angry. Living with God is the one most profound thing that we are created to do. But it isn’t always easy to do. This is work that I love: to help Christians understand how they can move from coping in life next to God to living and flourishing with God every day.

I received a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot Seminary at Biola University in 2019. I currently work as an independent Spiritual Director.

The direction space is a is for me a place to learn together how God is working constantly to bring our hearts and minds into communion with him. As a director, I hope to create a space where individuals can bring their true selves, a place of hospitality and truth where we can learn together how to navigate the depths of the human soul, map the locations of hurt and confusion and explore the wonders of an internal landscape crafted by God. Sometimes that work lies in examining personality, sometimes in working through pain, grief, trauma or dryness. Sometimes it is in examining the freedom and joys of how God has created each of us to work for and reflect him. Sometimes it’s in listening to the resonances and resistances that crop up in everyday life. And, always the work is to do as John did after Jesus’ resurrection: pointing and crying out together “Look! There is the Lord!”

I am interested in the use of liturgy and spiritual practices as a way to integrate our lives with the active presence of God. The practices I tend to work with most are: prayer, practicing the presence of God, hospitality, lectio and visio divina, and worship. But really, I believe that almost anything can be used as a spiritual practice, because God it is God’s continual desire for us to be with him and he is wonderfully resourceful in making that happen.

I am also interested in the practice of art as a way to understand both God and ourselves. It seems to me art can help us to articulate and hold pain; it can also help us receive and embrace joy. This is because God is not only good, and true, but beautiful and the appreciation of and creation of beauty can help us draw closer to him, embracing deep truths about what it means to be a human created by God.

About Me

I am a compassionate and engaged listener. As a spiritual director I am honored to be a companion to those who seek to better recognize and respond to the invitations and movements of the Holy Spirit in their lives. When we take time to create space to listen and notice the quiet voice of God, I believe we find more healing, purpose and wholeness.

My work background began in training and development in the corporate world. Most recently I had the privilege to serve for 13 years on staff at a church. My focus as church staff, and for many years as a volunteer, has been to be involved in ministries that provide care for others. My desire to care for others drew me to complete a two-year program for Spiritual Direction at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in Lino Lakes, MN (2022).

Reflection is an important part of my life. My own personal experiences of loss brought me to a place of connection with God in a new way and began my journey of a quieter and more contemplative approach in my prayer life. I believe our experiences, both the joys and sorrows, can be invitations to experience God in a new way. When we slow down to seek silence and stillness, new enriching paths can be forged on our spiritual journey.
