About Me

My favorite image of a spiritual director is that of a midwife: one who listens and tenderly attends to the birthing process of new life that God desires to give each of us. I like to create a safe place for people to connect with God, to grow in intimacy with Jesus, and to be held in the Father’s loving embrace.

Spiritual direction is about prayerful attention. Instead of offering advice or attempting to solve a problem, my role as a spiritual director is to help you notice the movement of God in your life and assist you in perceiving the deep stirrings and longings in your spirit. My ministry is one of listening, with one ear tuned to the Holy Spirit and the other tuned to your story. No agenda. No achievement plan. Just time and place set apart to draw near to the living God. Throughout this process it is the Holy Spirit who is the ultimate director.

Are there things churning inside you that you are not sure how to process? Do you need perspective? Do you desire to see light and to feel hope? If so, it would be an honor to be with you, to pay attention to what God is doing in your life, and to dialogue with you about how you may want to respond to God’s invitations.

I participated in the three-year spiritual direction program at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California, completing it in 2002. I have worked as a spiritual director in para-church as well as church settings, and while living among the poor and marginalized during a long period of inner-city ministry. I have worked in retreat direction and in the training and supervision of spiritual directors. I live in San Francisco with my husband of 30 years and our friendly dog, who accompanies me on many of my favorite walks. We have two adult daughters. Our younger daughter is affected by Down syndrome and a passionate dancer. I enjoy finding God in nature, walking with friends, dance, yoga, reading, traveling, and sharing meals from around the world with friends and family.

Ministry, whether paid or volunteer, presents challenges which can be overwhelming. If a Christian leader does not take special care of their soul, they will likely succumb to the pressures of leadership. They will feel alone, inadequate, down, depressed, isolated or just plain disoriented. Do any of those ideas resonate with you?

My heart is to come alongside those leaders in ministry settings and give them someone safe to listen to their story. So that Jesus will not be someone to work for, but with someone who ministry is done with! I specialize in working with pastors and church leaders who are experiencing difficulty in their ministry. It is a joy to walk with someone as they discover how to discern the movements of the Holy Spirit and identify the seasons of their spiritual growth. I would love to walk with you through your current season of the soul.

I graduated from Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO and received an MA in Christian Formation and Soul Care from Denver Seminary in 2011. I’ve been an ordained pastor since 1996 and served in a variety of states and positions (Youth Pastor, Associate, Discipleship and Sr Pastor) within the local church. I am currently a Professor at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, KS, while continuing in a Doctorate of Ministry program at Denver Seminary.

Because Jesus promised to never leave or forsake us, it follows that He has been present in every moment of our lives. In the beautiful moments and the ones that have left scars, He has been there. I have been privileged to journey with individuals who desire to experience God's presence in their lives, even in the quiet, empty, and/or seemingly detached seasons. My training at the Institute for Spiritual Formation at the Talbot School of Theology grounded my understanding and practice of spiritual direction. Through deep listening and gentle questioning, with silence and with prayer, in spiritual practices and Scripture, I offer adults a Holy-Spirited space to pour out their hearts to God. As we dwell together in God’s embrace, I assist directees to open their hearts to God’s compassionate response. My ministry of spiritual direction and retreat leadership is grounded in extensive learning through Journey Partners spiritual direction training, the spiritual formation certification programs of the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the Institute for Discipleship, and more than two decades as a practitioner. As a Christian and Spiritual Director, I am passionate about living life with God, not just the hard parts, but the parts where we sit down and eat breakfast, wash dishes and walk to the mailbox. But yes, also the times when we’re tired, confused, hurt and angry. Living with God is the one most profound thing that we are created to do. But it isn’t always easy to do. This is work that I love: to help Christians understand how they can move from coping in life next to God to living and flourishing with God every day.

I received a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot Seminary at Biola University in 2019. I currently work as an independent Spiritual Director.

The direction space is a is for me a place to learn together how God is working constantly to bring our hearts and minds into communion with him. As a director, I hope to create a space where individuals can bring their true selves, a place of hospitality and truth where we can learn together how to navigate the depths of the human soul, map the locations of hurt and confusion and explore the wonders of an internal landscape crafted by God. Sometimes that work lies in examining personality, sometimes in working through pain, grief, trauma or dryness. Sometimes it is in examining the freedom and joys of how God has created each of us to work for and reflect him. Sometimes it’s in listening to the resonances and resistances that crop up in everyday life. And, always the work is to do as John did after Jesus’ resurrection: pointing and crying out together “Look! There is the Lord!”

I am interested in the use of liturgy and spiritual practices as a way to integrate our lives with the active presence of God. The practices I tend to work with most are: prayer, practicing the presence of God, hospitality, lectio and visio divina, and worship. But really, I believe that almost anything can be used as a spiritual practice, because God it is God’s continual desire for us to be with him and he is wonderfully resourceful in making that happen.

I am also interested in the practice of art as a way to understand both God and ourselves. It seems to me art can help us to articulate and hold pain; it can also help us receive and embrace joy. This is because God is not only good, and true, but beautiful and the appreciation of and creation of beauty can help us draw closer to him, embracing deep truths about what it means to be a human created by God.

I am a compassionate and engaged listener. As a spiritual director I am honored to be a companion to those who seek to better recognize and respond to the invitations and movements of the Holy Spirit in their lives. When we take time to create space to listen and notice the quiet voice of God, I believe we find more healing, purpose and wholeness.

My work background began in training and development in the corporate world. Most recently I had the privilege to serve for 13 years on staff at a church. My focus as church staff, and for many years as a volunteer, has been to be involved in ministries that provide care for others. My desire to care for others drew me to complete a two-year program for Spiritual Direction at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in Lino Lakes, MN (2022).

Reflection is an important part of my life. My own personal experiences of loss brought me to a place of connection with God in a new way and began my journey of a quieter and more contemplative approach in my prayer life. I believe our experiences, both the joys and sorrows, can be invitations to experience God in a new way. When we slow down to seek silence and stillness, new enriching paths can be forged on our spiritual journey.

I love to see the presence and love of God come into focus in a person's life. I worked in non-profit, para-church and church ministry for over 20 years in pastoral, executive, and volunteer capacities. I am now focusing on personal spiritual direction, spiritual formation groups and retreats.

If you have never tried spiritual direction, I highly recommend it! Spiritual Direction played an important role in my own life at a time when I was burnt out and needed a fresh way to engage God and others. Therefore, I am thrilled to now offer direction to others because I know firsthand how valuable it is.

I received my training through the Anglican Diocese of New England. I have additional training in leading people through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises as well as the Enneagram. I earned my MA in Christian Studies from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. I am comfortable meeting with both Evangelicals and Roman Catholics. I meet with people either in person or via zoom for those at a distance. I also offer retreats through my ministry (Jesus Expedition) and lead retreats for groups that invite me in to do so.

Spiritual direction burst into my life quite unexpectedly. Here in New England, the practice has not gained the awareness and popularity that it has in other parts of the country, so I was fairly unfamiliar with it until a few years ago. But when a friend told me about the two-year training program through Nuos Formation, I was intrigued and sensed God's invitation to sign up. What followed was life-changing. As I experienced the beauty of receiving spiritual direction in both individual and group settings, and then provided it for others, it felt as if my soul had finally found the rest it had been longing for. I felt seen and held by God as I never had before. And now it is a joy and privilege to get to hold sacred space for others longing to feel seen and held by God.

I am married with one teen and three young adult children. My husband of 25 years and I have been involved in church ministry and leadership of one form or another for most of our adult lives. Pastors and church leaders face unique challenges, and often a sense of isolation. I've discovered that spiritual direction with a trained director outside their congregation can be a beautiful safe space to unburden their souls and experience God's loving attunement.

My own experiences with spiritual abuse, family of origin trauma, and rigid church systems have given me great empathy for hurting people trying to make sense of God and faith. My heart is to provide a safe space to process confusion and pain, and to explore doubts about God and Christianity.

I am a certified Enneagram coach through the Essential Enneagram Growth System. Sometimes a session may include exploration of where God might be inviting an individual to growth and wholeness, or where they might be stuck. The Enneagram can provide a great framework for that.

I love hiking, solitude, karate, reading, great food, travel with my husband, and any chance I can get to hang out with my grown kids.

I received my spiritual direction training at the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Biola University. One of the things I enjoy most about being a spiritual director is getting to witness my directees be touched by God in ways they've least expected it. The way their eyes light up when they realize God's love for them is so precious and such a gift.

Being a Korean-American, and having lived in America and Korea, I have a deep love and appreciation for cross-cultures. Having attended a Korean-American immigrant church for most of my life, I understand the unique spiritual dynamics and culture in an Asian American church.

Hi! I'm Esmé, a trauma-informed Spiritual Director, therapist in training, and aspiring good-enoughist. I love helping others deconstruct their beliefs while overcoming religious shame, church hurt, and spiritual trauma. As a queer, neurodivergent person and trauma survivor with cPTSD, I'm deeply aware of how religious shame & trauma can affect our ability to draw close to God and keep us from becoming our best, most authentic self.

Because of this, I'm wildly passionate about creating sacred, healing spaces for self-discovery and soul searching. I take a deeply affirming, whole-person approach; offering Spiritual Direction through a non-religious, trauma-informed lens and with underpinnings in somatic (body) awareness, integrative parts work (IFS), and therapeutic art. When I'm not in sessions, I can be found working toward becoming a licensed therapist, making messy art, or tending to my own soul.

ON BEING "NON-RELIGIOUS"
As a queer Christian mystic, my own spiritual experience is expansive, curious, imaginative, and free. I do not limit God, my spiritual life, or my work as a spiritual director to a set of religious expectations. This opens everything up wide; allowing God to draw close and in deeply profound, beautiful ways: in dreams and intuitive knowings, in heavy sighs, holy tears, and the long pauses in between, in art and poetry, and in people all around. I honor the unique and individual ways that God is drawing close to others and consciously work to offer my clients the same things I offer myself: authenticity, empathy, non-judgment, and freedom to be.

What an honor, a sacred place, the ministry of Spiritual Direction. It is a privilege to come alongside the true Spiritual Director, the Holy Spirit.

I first discovered Spiritual Direction as part of my own spiritual formation. I completed a 5 year journey into my own spiritual formation beginning with a 9 month experience in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. This followed by a two-year Spiritual Formation program through the ministry of The Transforming Center and Ruth Haley Barton and most recently completing a two-year training program through the Sustainable Faith, School of Spiritual Direction.

My vocation had long been in a role of directing Global Outreach in a local congregation. As a part of this role, I met with many persons; missionaries, pastors, volunteers and church members. What I noticed over and over were so many persons longing to know and to be known by God in a deeper way. I stepped away from my Global Outreach position in order to shift my focus to the work of Spiritual Direction.

I desire to listen to others, while holding this sacred space, helping others to notice God’s presence in their soul journey. God is faithful, and always present to meet the directee wherever that might be.

In addition to offering Spiritual Direction, I am blessed to spend time with my husband of 41 years, our 3 children, their spouses and 7 grandchildren.

Dan’s journey to becoming a spiritual director was through the unlikely door of civil engineering, the profession in which he had worked in for over 20 years. Following a season of serving as a missionary engineer in Uganda, Dan came to a greater awareness of his longing to accompany others on their journey to a greater attentiveness to the movements of God and a deepening intimacy with Him.

Dan has completed two years of training with the Sustainable Faith Schools of Spiritual Direction and has also been trained by Sustainable Faith to accompany individuals through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. A teacher with Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction, Dan enjoys training spiritual directors in Colorado at various locations along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

Over the last 20+ years, Dan has served churches as an elder, staff member and volunteer ministry leader, worked full time with a few different mission organizations, and in 2022 began serving with InterVarsity USA as an Associate Director of Spiritual Formation.

Dan is also a pilgrimage guide along the Camino de Ignaciano, a recently developed route in northeastern Spain that highlights the journey Ignatius of Loyola made in 1522 and invites modern day pilgrims to a growing understanding of God’s direction for one’s life.

Dan, and his wife, Kim, reside in Colorado Springs and have three children. When he’s not spending time with family or savoring a cup of coffee and a good book, Dan enjoys hiking the many mountainous and forested trails throughout Colorado. He is available to meet in person in Colorado Springs or remotely via Zoom.

Hi, I’m Anja. I am in a cross-cultural marriage and have three grown children. I was born in Germany and have lived in various places, including the Middle East, Canada, and the UK, where I have been involved in Christian mission work for the past 30 years.

I trained in relational Spiritual Direction with Deepen in Malaga 2018-2020, where I discovered my calling to create spaces for people in ministry to grow in their awareness of our loving Saviour as they navigate life and ministry in all its dimensions. I also trained in Ignatian Spiritual Direction (and supervision) at St. Beuno's in Wales, where I developed a passion for the Ignatian exercises. I appreciate how these exercises can help individuals bring their whole selves and deepest longings to God in prayer.

In my experience, these spiritual exercises are valuable for growing in freedom to receive God's love and discern His will. I believe and experience that contemplative spaces are places of beauty, healing, and joy. I'm Laura - a counselor and writer turned spiritual director. I'm glad you're here.

In the early years of my career, I'd never heard of spiritual direction. When I accidentally stumbled into a contemplative prayer class, I realized I had been longing for spiritual rest for a very long time.

In contemplative prayer, I was led into the "unforced rhythms of grace." I didn’t just consider Jesus; I met with Him. Before long, I was signing up for all the contemplative activities I could find. Formational prayer. Spiritual Direction. The 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercise of St. Ignatius. I was hooked.

After a while, I began teaching formational prayer classes and in May 2023, I earned my certificate in Spiritual Direction from Sustainable Faith.

Now, it’s my pleasure to offer direction to others. I happily direct anyone; however, if you are new to contemplation, burned-out on religion, or looking for trauma-informed direction, I have a special seat for you.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries (2019) and a Master of Practical Theology (2021) from Indiana Wesleyan University. I received my training in Spiritual Direction at the Institute of Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology, and also from Dr. Larry Crabb's School of Spiritual Direction. I am currently a staff spiritual director at Talbot School of Theology and China Evangelical Seminary North America.

About Me

I am excited to listen along with directees as they explore and notice their lives with God. Many describe me as a safe, gentle, and empathetic presence. I love offering a space for directees to feel safe to be honest about life, questions, doubts, relationships, trauma, and whatever else may be needed in a session. I have found a particular home in listening with people who are navigating a changing faith journey (what used to "work" isn't anymore), a history of church hurt, a history of trauma or abuse, and those wrestling with where and how to fit into a community of faith. God also seems to bring other leaders and pastors as well as those living with multi-cultural challenges into my life. It has been my experience that there is no question, no tension, and no pain that God cannot be present with. Witnessing his care and holding space for others to receive it is a gift.

I am a husband of 20 years and a father to four teen boys in a mixed race family. I am a pastor in a church in my hometown. I love traveling, nature (especially mountains!), motorcycles, dogs, sports, and people. I graduated from James Madison University, have done ministry in Russia, Kenya, and Uganda as well as on campus at Penn State University and Ohio State University. Now I find myself back where it all began in Chambersburg, PA, ministering in the local church with a focus on restoration, recovery, and spiritual formation. I completed my training to become a Spiritual Director through the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction in May of 2024.

I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to help discern how God may use the space of Spiritual Direction in your story. I am available in person in PA or digitally via Facetime, Skype, Zoom or your platform of choice. I look forward to listening with you.

About Me

My deep hope and prayer is that I offer a safe place for God to speak to those drained dry by life, ministry, parenting or burdened by pressures of all kinds that drown out the voice of God.....or maybe just people who feel it's hard to find God right now. Spiritual practices can feel dry or desire for God is lacking. This ministry constantly humbles me, mostly because God always shows up (in spite of my own frailty), and it feels like a huge honor to be trusted by others to walk alongside them on their spiritual journey.

After graduating from Talbot, I've worked in a variety of capacities in churches and conference centers, teaching and mentoring people of all ages and stages. But eventually, and without my knowing, all the busy doing drained my soul. I felt stuck in a spiritually dry place with God. That began my own long journey away from guilt and shame and towards a new way of approaching my own quiet rhythms with a loving Father. Later I spent two years training with Christian Formation and Direction Ministries. I have completed additional training to lead people (individuals or small groups) through the 19th annotation of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises or the retreat in daily life. I am a student of the wisdom of the Enneagram, especially as it applies to spiritual transformation. My ministry also involves the supervision and training of spiritual directors.

Spending free time with my dear husband, adult kids and my grandkids is extremely life-giving for me. Career-wise, I've worked part-time with families in independent study for 15 years. I'm also a lover of books and the beach (usually together) and a reluctant gym-rat. I am ever-blessed to have a small group of friends who put up my passion and fascination with the formation and care of the human soul as we travel this gift we call life.

I believe that Spiritual Direction is for people of any age. It involves listening, encouraging and supporting someone on their spiritual journey. I also believe that Spiritual Direction provides a life changing opportunity to draw closer to Jesus. This happened in my life. I’m confident that it can happen in yours.
I completed the Sustainable Faith Spiritual Direction program in May 2019. I graduated from Trinity International University with a MA in Counseling Ministries. I have a BS in Nursing from Ohio State University.
