About Me

A native of Taiwan, I emigrated to the U.S. at age twenty and later spent ten years serving in Central Asia, mentoring young local ministers and providing care and leadership training to ministry teams. In over 20 years of ministry, I discovered spiritual direction as a key part of my own emotional and spiritual health. As a spiritual director, I have a heart for church leaders, missionaries, and others who simply desire a space to deepen their relationship with the Triune God. We’re all fellow sheep, which walk together, nudging one another along, learning to recognize and follow the Good Shepherd’s voice. I count it my honor to companion others, through contemplative spiritual direction, in hearing and following God’s gentle, kind, and inviting voice.

I have an MA in Intercultural Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and am certified in Spiritual Direction by Selah of Leadership Transformations.

I was born and raised in Macau, and received my higher education in Toronto, Canada before moving to the U.S. as a young adult. I am a wife and a mother to two young adult sons, whom I homeschooled through high school. I live in the Greater Philadelphia area with my husband and our rescued pug.

I have a B.S. and M. S. from the University of Toronto, a M.Div. from Tyndale Seminary, Canada, and a certificate in Family and Marriage Therapy from Council for Relationships in Philadelphia. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler, I had served as director of community outreach to immigrants in an urban Asian-American church, outpatient therapist to underprivileged families in the city of Philadelphia, and mobile therapist to families who were victims of crime.

As I moved through these different geographical locations and vocations, I was simultaneously moving through my own spiritual journey with God. After hitting "the wall" through a major burnout in ministry, I was led to a deeper place in my spiritual journey where I was invited to play for the first time with God my Father as his beloved child. I was invited to explore and embrace my identity as his beloved in a slow and hidden way. Away from ministry leadership and in the midst of broken relationships, the Lord gave me a deep experiential knowledge of his love and met my desire for intimacy with him. I sensed him calling me to come alongside others in their spiritual journeys that they too may be recognize his deep love and presence in their lives.

I received my Spiritual Direction Certificate through Leadership Transformations' Selah Program, and the Certificate in Companioning Others with the Christlike Virtue Enneagram from Mosaic Formation and Spiritual Formation Society of Arizona. I served as an Elder for Spiritual Formation in my local church, introducing contemplative retreats and formational practices to its leadership and congregation.

Currently, I offer spiritual direction, soul care retreats, listening communities, and spiritual formation workshops with the desire that it will be a space whereby people, particularly ministry leaders of the underserved communities, can rest, drink deeply the love of God for their parched souls, particularly in the hard places of life and ministry, and be enlivened by the Holy Spirit with a new or renewed sense of their personal and vocational calling. I love witnessing the increasing freedom, playfulness, creativity, and adventurous spirit in individuals as they live into their Christ-transformed selves.

I participate in peer group supervision and my own formational group, and receive spiritual direction myself to nurture my own presence to God and to his work in me.

As a Spiritual Director my intent and practice is to help people attend to the presence and activity of God in their lives, and to grow in healthy self-awareness of the ways they respond to God.

I enjoy working with followers of Christ at any point in their relationship with him. Helping people become discerning people who know how to make good decisions about life choices is an important part of my work as a spiritual director. Since self-awareness is critical to good discernment, I help people navigate the Enneagram as a tool for honest self-evaluation and transformation. I also accompany people through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.

I have spent over 30 years working with leaders in high stress environments. What I bring to spiritual direction for Christian leaders and cross-cultural workers is an understanding of the role of suffering, especially the 'dark night of the soul' experiences where God and His rewards seem absent.

I have a BA in Biblical Studies, an MA in Christian Ministries, am ordained, and have completed a two-year certification program in Spiritual Direction with Christian Formation and Direction Ministries (2011). I train others in spiritual direction through Sustainable Faith.

I delight in being loved by God!
Spiritual Direction provides a rich place for exploring what that means in everyday life - it gives breathing room to listen for how God’s heart beats and voice speaks. These reflective moments with a trusted companion can be a Sabbath-hour - a place to pause, to interact with God in stillness, to be refreshed in God’s generous presence. These are prayerful spaces to witness and nurture transformations of the heart.

I love to create environments
for others to deepen their awareness of God and to grow in spiritual intimacy, as well as to feel freer to be loved and to love. The practice of Spiritual Direction allows me to accompany other souls on their unique spiritual journeys, on whatever part of their paths they might be.

I have sensed God’s invitation into Spiritual Direction through:
~varied expressions of worship and encountering God in community. These have informed my desire to listen to God’s beloved ones in any tradition.
~life experiences - I have been familiar with disappointment beside hope; disability and disease as well as healing, mental health disorders amid uninhibited joy.
~informal and formal education - especially creative and prayerful ministries, including inner healing, compassionate listening, and artistic writing facilitation. In Spring 2023, I completed training in Spiritual Direction through Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction.

I also carry a lifelong interest
in human cultures and languages. Passion burns in me for every individual and people group of the earth to discover the unwavering love of God, revealed in the God-Man Jesus Christ. I am grateful for opportunities to offer Spiritual Direction to those who have given their lives to cross-cultural ministry. In addition, I work in recovery ministry with women who are overcoming addiction and other outcomes from abuse and trauma.

My home life includes
personally caring for my disabled adult son as well as managing his full-time caregiving needs. I also enjoy long walks, simply solo with God or with my husband (since 1995) or another soul friend along the greenbelt in my neighborhood. Hiking in the mountains or along a coastal path are especially happy places. My heart sings when I worship dance with colorful flags or scarves.

I am learning to find God’s Spirit

I am humbled to accept God’s calling as a holy listener and sacred companion and I am excited about joining you to be still in His presence, to be a witness to His awe-inspiring spiritual transformation in you. May I offer you a safe place to affirm how loved and desired you are by our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ in your seasons of life?

God answered my prayer request to grow deeper in love with him and to truly experience his presence in life. I received Spiritual Direction training through the Renewing Life Center’s Spiritual Formation program in 2018. This spiritual journey redefined my relationship with God and my inner-self where I have experienced unimaginable awakenings, feelings of awe from holy revelations, and deeper, intimate love, and trust in God. Through Spiritual Direction, God has graciously granted me soulful healing to where I have found my way back to my God-intended true self and to champion my unique engagement in the world that flows from my soul’s rest in God’s love.

My training experience also includes training with Stephen Care Ministries, Biblical Coaching, Integrative Health and Wellness Life Coaching, Domestic Violence Advocacy, and Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Leadership training. I am grateful God granted me these exceptional training experiences to further my own spiritual formation.

I am married, and my husband Scott and I have three adult children and two grandchildren. I especially enjoy spoiling my two grandchildren. I am ever so grateful for spending time with family, and friends, and hosting fellowship gatherings to meet new brothers and sisters in Christ.

I come to Spiritual Direction as a city dweller, a creator of spaces, a mom, and a seeker of the sacred in ordinary life.

When I first learned about spiritual direction, I heard it described as being a ‘midwife of the soul.’ This connected deeply with me because I found pregnancy, birthing, and motherhood to be such a rich and vulnerable time with God. I love the idea of one person in the presence of another as they bring forth new life in their heart, mind, body and soul. I believe the Holy Spirit is the true director at work in spiritual direction, and I hope to come alongside others as they connect with the voice of God. As we notice together where the spirit is at work, we will hope to see glimpses of new life. My role is to provide prayerful support, active listening, and discernment in an environment of safety and acceptance.

Before I became a mama, I was an architect. Before I called DC home, Nebraska was my home. The Lord has been gracious in guiding me through these seasons. I grew up in the church and draw on that foundation as my faith has become my own. After college I left the Nebraska landscape for a professional life in DC, to the heart of a mama, and now into Spiritual Direction. My life is enriched by the city, where I have learned to seek out the green spaces nestled among new and old buildings, as well as rejoice in the beauty of dense living and diverse neighbors. Our family has carved out a space here that fits us well and the Lord has blessed us.

I am a graduate of the SELAH program for Spiritual Direction offered through Leadership Transformation Inc.

I was first introduced to the idea of spiritual direction in 2018 when I enrolled in the School of Ministry at Richmont Graduate University. Upon enrolling, I felt a strong desire to pursue a two-year certificate program in Spiritual Direction. It was one of the greatest life-changing decisions that I could have ever made to enhance the betterment of my spiritual journey. I am thrilled that I had the privilege to stumble upon such an awesome ministry, a new paradigm that I was not aware of.

During my two-year training, I was exposed to various Ignatian spiritual practices that help foster the training of my ears to the art of listening, being sensitive to the voice of God. In addition, upon my spiritual training, I notice an increase in my dreams and visions, which is one channel of my communication with God. So, I have taken an interest in learning and understanding my dreams and visions. Further, more than anything, it is inspirational to have a spiritual director who will walk alongside you throughout your spiritual journey. As a result, my spiritual director has comforted and guided me in cultivating and developing my spiritual growth, which provides a wonderful and therapeutic experience.

As a spiritual director, I am enthusiastically ready to walk alongside you as you embark on your adventurous spiritual journey to grow into a deeper relationship with God. Nevertheless, God is the true guide and director. I am reminded of a quote by Ruth Barton Haley, the author of Sacred Rhythms stated, "The spiritual journey was never meant to be taken alone. It's meant to be taken in companionship with other spiritual seekers."

I reside in Georgia with my husband. In our spare time, we enjoy traveling and engaging in various outdoor activities, just enjoying the beauty of God's creation.

So, what is Spiritual Direction?

Another phrase for spiritual direction is spiritual accompaniment, or spiritual friendship. What I love about spiritual direction, is that it allows us to open up our lives to another soul, a spiritual friend who bears witness to our story, our past, present and future as it progresses in real time, seeing where the Lord is, and where the Spirit is leading. As a recipient of spiritual direction, I have been blessed to have another person to listen to the movements of my heart and have a sacred space to say what is usually left unsaid in everyday life. Having that sacred space, another to come alongside and bear witness to our life is so healing and restorative.

As a spiritual director, I have been so honored to walk alongside my directees and hold their stories, observing and noticing with them the Spirit's movements, celebrating their wins and holding their sorrows. If we look close enough, we can see that the Lord is with us not just on the mountaintop, but in our "plain" ordinary lives. The question is, are we looking for Him?

As your spiritual director, I come alongside you to look, see, and feel where the Lord is and where He might be leading you.

Linda Madeksho has been involved in career para-church ministry for almost 40 years. Much of that work was in the field of social justice and crisis intervention pioneering where she counseled individuals, organizations and facilitated groups in both the secular and religious communities. She has worked primarily in Texas and southern Africa.
During that time, she found that many who have been in the church family for years, whether staff, lay leader or congregant, often reach a point in their spiritual journey where they feel unfulfilled. They may not be in crisis but find they are seeking something that seems just out of reach. Traditional Christian counseling, discipleship programs, Bible studies or life coaching do not seem to be the whole answer.
Linda retired from full-time ministry in 2012 and began her own personal journey toward spiritual transformation through various disciplines available in the field. She believes that this formation journey has been the most rewarding adventure she has been on in her long and varied career whether in the local, national or in the international community. She states that it is second only to accepting Jesus as her Savior.

My passion is to companion with others on their journey to a deepening love relationship with the triune God. Just as I have found a deep peace as Abba’s beloved child through contemplative spiritual direction, I also desire to come alongside others as they discover His personal offer of overflowing hope (Romans 15:13).

I first encountered contemplative practices over 25 years ago. God’s Presence and guidance through the contemplative life have provided a firm foundation to my roles in the corporate world, in ministry, and as a wife to my husband Dave.

I have been in vocational ministry since 2000, living and serving internationally in a variety of roles and settings. Now based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, I offer spiritual direction to cross-cultural workers around the world as well as to the local Christian community.

I hold a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Selah (Leadership Transformations). My academic training includes an MA in Pastoral Counseling and Spiritual Formation and a Doctor of Ministry in Member Care, both from Columbia International University. I began my professional career as an optometrist before being called to serve overseas as an international public health and development consultant.

Being in Spiritual Direction for over 20 years has been one of the most transformative experiences in my life, both with my relationship with God as well as others. In 2011, together with my Spiritual Director and others close to me, I was led to discern a vocation as a Spiritual Director myself. In 2017, I completed my graduate Certification in Spiritual Direction through Neumann University in Aston, Pennsylvania. In 2021, I completed an additional Certificate from the Lanteri Center for Ignatian Spirituality. To extend and support growing spiritual directors, I was led to complete formation as a spiritual direction supervisor.

It has been a privilege to offer Spiritual Direction and Contemplative Retreats within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and extending to the Mid-North Atlantic Regions.

Later In 2017, with the support of many, I was blessed to have founded Peak Encounter Ministries, a non-profit, Christian organization under the approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Beginning with radical hospitality, we offer outdoor adventure and contemplative retreats integrating Scripture, prayer, and fellowship in the beauty of God's creation. Since we began, the Lord has led amazingly talented and generous leaders to answer the call to serve on our team! So far, we have held over 45 retreats, positively impacting over 350 young adults. The ministry looks forward to continued growth and aims to be a point of engagement, connecting or reconnecting retreatants back to Christ within their local Christian communities in a real, relational, and relevant way.

About Me

Welcome Friend, my name is Jen Manglos. There are many ways I could describe myself, but I like to start with the truest part - I am God’s beloved. And as a spiritual director, supervisor, pastor, and writer, I delight in helping others discover their own belovedness in God.

I graduated from the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot Theological Seminary in May 2010. During my time there I received training in spiritual direction and discovered the profound gift of creating space for another to be listened to and to notice God’s invitations in life. I currently offer individual and group direction, as well as individual and group supervision and pilgrimage coaching, and am available to speak at retreats and conferences. Embodiment, hospitality, and storytelling characterize my approach, as well as pilgrimage, having completed the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage through Spain in 2018. I am available to meet in-person in Seattle or online.

I formerly coordinated retreats for Saddleback Church’s Rancho Capistrano property before moving to Seattle, Washington in 2019 for a pastoral role with Bethany Community Church (finished role in 2021). One day, I hope to open my own retreat house to care for pastors and church leaders, inviting them into “unforced rhythms of grace” with God. Athanasius says, "The Risen Christ makes life a perpetual feast," and I thoroughly enjoy this feast of a life through steaming cups of coffee, walks and hikes through the PNW, sharing meals with dear friends, and discovering new films, books, musicals, and podcasts. I am an ordained Anglican priest and former missionary lecturer. A graduate of the Sursum Corda Spiritual Director's Training Program, I have been active in Spiritual Direction for 25 years. My belief about direction is that it should involve a patient and attentive listening to three things: God's Word and activity, the Great Tradition of the Church, and the unique story and context of a person’s life. Although I am passionately ecumenical, my personal commitments are to a Liturgical/Sacramental worldview and Christocentrism, with a decidedly Benedictine emphasis.

I have a particular passion for helping people with developing a Rule of Life and a workable set of spiritual practices. In addition, I have interest and training in helping those in Recovery, doing "4th and 5th Step" work, and engaging with those who don't always "fit" in traditional church life: those experiencing trauma, guilt, shame or struggling with issues of faith deconstruction and atheism. Given my life experience, I also have a lot of experience helping people on the mission field and those in all stages of ordained ministry discernment and preparation.

It is an honor for me to companion and hold space with others in their walk with God. Spiritual Direction is a sacred space to slow down, listen and perceive the workings and voice of God in one's life.

My journey with Spiritual Direction started 11 years ago when my mentor became a Spiritual Director and introduced me to the contemplative life style. I learned to slow down and pay more attention to the movings of the Holy Spirit at work in my life. I was hungry to meet with God in more intimate ways and was drawn to practicing silent retreats, sabbath rest, and spiritual direction.

Since I've been in full time urban ministry for over 17 years in Chicago I know how stress, demands, and crises of life can drain and overwhelm us. This is why I'm so passionate about creating space for others to tend to their soul and to learn the unhurried rhythms of grace that Christ offers us.

In particular I have a heart for those in missions or full time ministry to learn how to slow and listen to the voice of God. As well as those who have experienced loss or church hurt to be able to heal from their grief.

In my free time I love doing Zumba, eating different ethnic foods, and spending time playing outdoors with my husband.

Whether you would like to meet in-person or online I would love to be a listening presence as you walk in your own spiritual journey! I desire to create a safe space where people feel free to share what's on their hearts and minds as we discern where God is at work. I offer free consultations so feel free to reach out.

My spiritual direction practice involves ushering people into the presence of the God who loves us and delights in us more than we can possibly fathom. I enjoy meeting people where they are and accompanying them on a journey to deeper intimacy with God and union with Jesus Christ. I received a certificate in spiritual direction from Larry Crabb's New Way School of Spiritual Direction in 2018. I'm among a group of spiritual directors with Coracle, a spiritual formation ministry based in the Washington, D.C. area. I also serve as an elder with Bethany Community Church, a non-denominational church my wife and I helped start in 1986, in Laurel, MD. My wife and I love to offer hospitality and spiritual care especially to weary leaders. We enjoy spending time with our son Andrew and his wife, Amy who live nearby.
