I am a San Francisco-based spiritual director with a focus on how creative expression, storytelling, and body movement allows us to be more present to God in our unfolding spiritual journey. I hold a Bachelors in Psychology, a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Nuos Formation, and have nearly two decades of experience in spiritual discipleship ministry.

Throughout years of ministry, I have learned to pay attention to the narrative of each person’s story, how that narrative has shaped their capacity for relationship with God, themselves, and others. About Me

It is an honor for me to companion and hold space with others in their walk with God. Spiritual Direction is a sacred space to slow down, listen and perceive the workings and voice of God in one's life.

My journey with Spiritual Direction started 11 years ago when my mentor became a Spiritual Director and introduced me to the contemplative life style. I learned to slow down and pay more attention to the movings of the Holy Spirit at work in my life. I was hungry to meet with God in more intimate ways and was drawn to practicing silent retreats, sabbath rest, and spiritual direction.

Since I've been in full time urban ministry for over 17 years in Chicago I know how stress, demands, and crises of life can drain and overwhelm us. This is why I'm so passionate about creating space for others to tend to their soul and to learn the unhurried rhythms of grace that Christ offers us.

In particular I have a heart for those in missions or full time ministry to learn how to slow and listen to the voice of God. As well as those who have experienced loss or church hurt to be able to heal from their grief.

In my free time I love doing Zumba, eating different ethnic foods, and spending time playing outdoors with my husband.

Whether you would like to meet in-person or online I would love to be a listening presence as you walk in your own spiritual journey! I desire to create a safe space where people feel free to share what's on their hearts and minds as we discern where God is at work. I offer free consultations so feel free to reach out.

My spiritual direction practice involves ushering people into the presence of the God who loves us and delights in us more than we can possibly fathom. I enjoy meeting people where they are and accompanying them on a journey to deeper intimacy with God and union with Jesus Christ. I received a certificate in spiritual direction from Larry Crabb's New Way School of Spiritual Direction in 2018. I'm among a group of spiritual directors with Coracle, a spiritual formation ministry based in the Washington, D.C. area. I also serve as an elder with Bethany Community Church, a non-denominational church my wife and I helped start in 1986, in Laurel, MD. My experience has mostly been with college and graduate students at Biola University where I completed my Spiritual Direction training and supervision at the Institute of Spiritual Formation in 2017. I've since moved to the Miami area and offer spiritual direction to ladies in leadership at much church and ready to take on more individual directees again in this season of my ministry (virtual or in person).

My desire is to walk alongside those who want to better understand the hard places they have found themselves in life or within their walks with Jesus. I have experience working in various kinds of church ministries outside of spiritual direction including hospitality, children's ministry, high school ministry and leading adult small groups. I have come to notice that in each ministry setting I've been drawn to hearing people's stories and understanding their journeys with God through the joyful and sorrowful times. It is an honor to be with people in their places of grief, sorrow and pain just as much as it is to walk alongside those who are in a lighter time of life or celebrating what God is doing.

I am very drawn to those "cradle Christians" or long time believers who have grown up in the church and are finding themselves having questions about their belief in God, maybe for the first time. I understand this to be a challenging place and spiritual direction offers a welcoming space for questions and strong emotions towards God. I really enjoy entering into those places with others.

My longing is to grow in deeper intimacy with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and to walk alongside others, encouraging them to see how the Trinity is present in all of life. After retiring from a career in education, I completed my training for spiritual direction through Christos Center (in 2020). Since then I have been practicing spiritual direction. I am particularly passionate about Ignatian Spirituality and have offered The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in retreat, group and individual formats.

My husband Peter and I have been married since 1980 and have three grown children and ten grandchildren. Our broader family includes adopted children as well as a blended family. I enjoy learning, the arts, the outdoors and gathering small groups of people in creative ways that allow them to connect at deeper levels.

Years ago while living in France, God used the Ignatian Exercises to transform my heart and life in ways I hadn’t realized were possible. With that transformation he also gave me a passion for walking alongside others in the journey of transformation. I completed my spiritual direction training, ISCAS, through a French organization, Compagnons de Route. After living in France for 17 years, our family moved to Nashville. Friendship with Jesus is the greatest gift of my life, and walking alongside others in their spiritual journey is another of life’s great gifts, including practicing spiritual direction! Spiritual direction is a form of spiritual friendship or companionship. It is conversations between two folks, where we can seek the presence and work of God together. In direction, I seek to create a safe, sacred space for us to tell stories of God, His love, and life experiences. This often includes Scripture, prayer, silence, spiritual practices, and curiosity about God, and his work and presence in your life.

I’ve lived in Colorado for 20 years, a great place to enjoy hiking, biking, and creation beauty! I’m married to Charlie, and we love sharing life with our adult kids and 5 grandkids. We currently worship at an Anglican church, but have worshiped in many Christian traditions over the years. I serve as a spiritual director in different arenas: for individuals, groups, and with folks living on the margins of poverty in our city. I also accompany people through the Ignatian Exercises, a very unique and intimate year long journey with God.

I received a Certificate of Spiritual Direction from the Benet Hill Monastery in 2014, and completed training from the Larry Crabb School of Spiritual Direction later that year. I also grew greatly in the Renovare Institute, and have completed training for soul care with people on the margins, and in Ignatian spirituality. My journey toward the ministry of spiritual direction followed an unexpected path. I am a professional vocal accompanist, choir director, and a former pastor of music ministries at Christian & Missionary Alliance churches in Toronto and Vancouver. While focusing my attention on music for over thirty years, I developed a growing passion for mentoring and discipleship ministries. God led me to explore these passions by participating in the discipleship program offered by Journey Canada. A few years later, I obtained a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Emmaus Formation Centre. I am now practicing my accompanist’s skills of concentrated listening and perceptivity by companioning with men who desire spiritual direction. As we meet together in the presence of the Holy Spirit, we seek to hear the voice of God and discern how He is at work in the directee’s life. Rick and his wife Chris were married for 50 years. Chris passed away in April 2020. Together they have two children and have 5 grandchildren. My journey with God began 35 years ago as a young adult searching for purpose and significance. My encounter with Jesus during my college years changed my trajectory to a joy-filled life of hungering for more of Him. I finished my college education with an undergraduate degree in Biblical studies and youth ministry while serving at my local home church. A few years after graduating, I married my husband, Brian, and we began our family. God blessed us with three children who are now full-grown adults. Through the years, God has graciously given me many opportunities to serve and mentor women in spiritual formation. I’ve served on staff with multiple churches where I mentored, trained and lead congregants in various ministries. I currently serve as the Operations/U.S. Director in an international ministry that focuses on women’s spiritual growth. In 2023, I received my certificate in Spiritual Direction through Listening to Life, Kairos University, Sioux Falls, SD. My ministry experience includes discipleship, evangelism, teaching and leading groups, leadership development and missions.

Currently I'm not receiving new directees.
I am a lover of beauty, as experienced in the various seasons of my life as a graphic artist, watercolor artist, musician, and all-around-“creative”. I enjoy cooking (especially with others!), fine dining, hiking, adventure and travel. I’ve been involved in ministry in eastern Asia and lived in Alaska, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia. But most importantly, I am passionate about journeying alongside others in our mutual discovery of our Belovedness in the heart of God. The first time I received spiritual direction I didn’t even know there was such a thing, and I balked at the term “direction”. But I found it, more than any other prayer ministry or counseling I’d received in the past, to be respectful of my own heart’s ability to hear God. And thus began the great adventure!

I've just embarked on my 70's, and have been married to the love of my life for over half of those years. We raised our two children in Alaska, and enjoy six beautiful grand children. Now we live on the Front Range of the Rockies in Colorado Springs, where we drink in plenty of sunshine! My husband and I love to practice hospitality in our home, and so the idea that there is a spacious hospitality offered to us in the presence of God is near to my heart. As such, I see spiritual direction as a holy invitation extended by God, inviting us to a spacious time and place in our hearts and souls.

I offer retreats, designed to be reflective and restful, in my home, on Zoom, or wherever in the world I’m invited. (I especially enjoy collaborating with other spiritual directors.) Some retreats are creative, playful, yet thoughtful.

I would consider it a sacred honor and privilege to journey along with you, wherever you are in your spiritual journey. Perhaps you have been experiencing a fresh hunger for God. Perhaps you are seeking discernment as you head into life-direction decisions, or you desire a spiritual companion to help you stay on track with God in the day-to-day stresses of life. Whatever your situation, choosing to enter into a relationship of spiritual direction can be life-giving.

I have completed a 2-year certificate program of spiritual direction through Leadership Transformations, Inc. SELAH. Completing this program has served to solidify the love I feel for this calling. I have also received certificates to coach the Enneagram and I offer the Ignatian Exercises, a 9-month "retreat in everyday life".

I was born and raised in Seattle, WA, and have lived in Los Angeles, CA for most of my adult life. I am a wife and mother to two teenage boys and have devoted the last 17 years to raising them. My eldest son is autistic and homeschooled and his way of moving in the world has deeply informed my spiritual journey. Yoga, meditation, therapy, centering prayer, silent retreats, collage, painting, beachcombing, and hiking are pathways that have further helped guide me in this journey. As a Spiritual Director, I seek to serve as a companion, offering another set of ears to listen for God’s moving in someone's heart and soul. I hope to walk with others in their spiritual journey as they seek the Holy mystery and yearn to live more deeply and meaningfully in the midst of the joys and sorrows encountered along the way. I will sometimes use creativity (collage, poetry, painting, art journaling) and movement to access what feels inaccessible or unknowable within us, seeking to hear what, where, and how the Holy Spirit is prompting.

I first heard about Spiritual Direction at Covenant Theological Seminary where I was studying to get a Masters of Divinity and a Masters in Educational Ministries. After ten years of serving in campus ministry my heart craved this kind of space and I dove right in, first meeting with my own director, then seeking out certification to start my own practice. I love hospitality and see Spiritual Direction as a way to host. You may not know what to bring, why exactly you are evening reaching out, but all you have to do is respond to God's invitation to come and meet with him. I enjoy cultivating space for people to do just that. Because of my own journey of growing up overseas as a missionary kid and time serving in campus ministry I have a passion for serving people in ministry both overseas and stateside.

I also have a passion for experiencing God through art and love creating space for others to do the same. Part of my spiritual direction practice is hosting Art Encounters with a friend. We create space to observe a piece of art (paintings for now), make meaning, and then we go into a guided time that is similar to Visio Divina, all over delicious food and in a beautiful space! It has been a joy to see artsy people all the way to people who have no idea what to do with art, discover that Jesus can use art to shape us spiritually and connect with us.

I recently received my certification in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction through a two year program with Healing Care Ministries International. It is holy privilege to create unhurried space for others to share their spiritual journeys with God and develop a close, intimate dialogue with Jesus through direct experiences. I also hold a certificate in Formational Prayer through HCMI. I have learned how to position others for healing using the structures of healing and fully relying on the ministry role of the Holy Spirit. My husband is a pastor in the United Methodist Church. I have a tender spot in my heart for other clergy spouses.

I offer Christ centered Spiritual Direction. I serve full-time as an Associate Chaplain in Senior Living and facilitate retreats with a team of women from churches in the St. Louis area. I am intrigued by discovering God's presence when He appears to be invisible. Simple pleasures are the best! As far as education goes, I earned an Honorary Ph.D from the School of Hard Knocks in Finding Beauty in Ashes. I completed a certificate in Spiritual Formation & Soul Care through The Soul Shepherding Institute, a MA in Counseling from Saint Louis University, and four units of Clinical Pastoral Education. I am a licensed minister with Open Bible Churches. A few of my hobbies are writing, amateur photography, singing and playing guitar, and a Bernadoodle puppy named, Rosie!

Julie's passion is offering a sacred listening space and holistic care for fellow companions on their sacred journeys. For over 20 years, Julie has been teaching, speaking, leading retreats, facilitating small groups, leading organizational teams, mentoring, writing, offering spiritual direction, and providing soul care for individuals and groups.

Julie is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, as well as her Health Coaching Certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is the Assistant Director for Spiritual Formation for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and as co-founder and house mom for Abba's House of Welcome for refugee women and their children. Julie's main roles are wife, mom, friend, spiritual director, wellness advocate, and refugee mom. She enjoys life on a small farm on the church property where her husband pastors LifeBridge Church and leads the refugee ministry with their family and menagerie of animals in Cypress, TX.
