About Me

I love listening to someone in spiritual direction as they share with me whatever it is that they are carrying into our time together. In their story I love it when they find God's story. I especially love sitting with someone and listening as they find their way home to God's heart and their own heart. I graduated from the Transformational Listening Center in Chicago in 2015 and was also a part of their teaching staff as an intern for another two years. I have been a practicing spiritual director ever since. I also have completed the 30 hour Enneagram Spectrum Training Program in 2016 and have participated in various other Enneagram intensive courses. I love working with individuals, couples and teams as they discover this great tool for personal growth and compassionate understanding of others. I also completed a year long intensive in the Ignatius Spiritual Exercises in 2020. Since I recently moved from the Chicago area to Dayton I am comfortable with spiritual direction over zoom as well as in person and would love to build my practice here in Dayton. I enjoy hiking, reading good books, cross-cultural exchanges that lead to deeper learning, and seeing God's image in each person in my path.

We are all on a journey. We are all a part of an unfolding story. We are all caught up in the drama called life. Yet, becoming Christ-conscious, experiencing Trinitarian communion, and finding our way home in union with God is a constant, daily challenge. For the Christian journeying in and through this world, having inner spiritual battles are normal and understandable. Yet, when significant and major distractions and disruptions occur, a crisis of faith can quickly evolve and a host of questions arise. This is especially true when one is just beginning, overwhelmed by fear, detoured by sufferings, become entrapped in illusions, or weakened by various difficulties. Thus, the ministry of Spiritual Direction that I have come to be about is one of listening intently for and discerning of what the Holy Spirit is revealing regarding a present block, pitfall, resistance, or an unresolved issue that is hindering one from moving into God's Realm of Heaven in the here and now. This takes place in the context of a covenanted spiritual companionship where the directee comes to experience one's soul and spirit and how to embody the wisdom that is being made known as the way to bear one's cross and follow Christ. Letting go of what is past and letting be what is frees one to be present and get in touch with the core of one's being -- the "image of God" for the glory of God. This process is healing and restorative of the whole person into a deeper life of holiness through a variety of spiritual practices. Then one can more faithfully be about the redemption and salvation, peace and justice of Christ, participating in the life and coming of God's Realm of Heaven in a Spirit-filled way.

I currently serve as a missionary in Germany and across Europe. I live in gratitude for the gift of my wife, Lisa, and our two children, Megan and Michael. I serve on Greater Europe Mission's Senior Leadership as the Leader for Spiritual Formation.

I sensed an invitation to the ministry of Spiritual Direction many years ago and enjoy serving others with this gift. While I prefer offering spiritual direction in person, I have experience in this ministry over Skype as well.

I hold a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary and a DMin in Spiritual Formation for Ministry Leaders from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. I received my training in Spiritual Direction through Leadership Transformations’ Selah Certificate Program.

I received my training in Spiritual Direction through Leadership Transformations’ Selah Certificate Program. I enjoy companioning with others listening to them share their spiritual journey; helping them pay attention to our Triune God’s presence, voice, and activity in their lives, deepening their awareness of the invitations He is extending to them.

Spiritual Direction is a gift that’s nurtured more than a skill that’s taught. It is more about listening to God and companioning another in their relationship with God, rather than talking to them about God. It is making space for prayerful listening to the One who is always with them.
It is such a joy to see people begin to embrace the love of God and join Him in becoming the kind of person He created them to be.

On a personal note, my dearest friend and husband (Doug Mitts) and I have been in vocational ministry in Europe for 31 years. We currently live in Frankfurt, Germany serving with Greater Europe Mission. We have two adult children Megan and Michael who both live in the U.S.

My name is Megan and one of the things I do is offer spiritual direction. I love sitting with others and God, journeying with them to discover the fullness of life that is found in Christ. I received an M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from the Institute for Spiritual Formation, Talbot Seminary, Biola University. I currently offer spiritual direction in person, on Biola University's Campus, or Zoom.

Joe served with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for forty-four years. He held various leadership roles including National Co-director of Spiritual Formation and Prayer.

Joe has completed two Certificates in Spiritual Formation, the first from Columbia Theological Seminary and the other from the Renovare’ Institute. The Renovare’ program offered Joe the opportunity to spend several weeks with Dallas Willard, as well as other leaders in Spiritual Formation in the evangelical community.

Joe has also received his Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Sustainable Faith. Joe has offered spiritual direction for the past seventeen years. His passion and interest in both retreats and spiritual direction has always been around the ways in which people are spiritually formed and grow increasingly into the image of Christ.

While working with InterVarsity, Joe led multiple spiritual formation retreats, on both national and regional levels. Additionally, he oversaw several cohorts of a two-year spiritual formation program for leaders in the organization. These retreats helped over one hundred ministry leaders deepen their soul lives and relationships with God.

I have a Spiritual Direction Certificate from Divine Mercy University and have knowledge of Carmelite and Ignatian spirituality. I also provide the 19th annotation retreat for those interested. When I meet with directees, I seek to understand them as the beautiful soul God created them to be. My approach to spiritual direction focuses on helping each directee realize that as a human person, their identity is based upon them knowing that they are beloved children of God, created in His image and likeness. From here, which is their principle and foundation, we begin God’s journey for the soul which brings clarity to what it means to live in His Divine Will for their growth in holiness and happiness.

By taking time to make sacred space to connect deeply with God we grow in faith. The journey of faith is not always a straight path and there are many times we don’t feel God’s presence or sense His will for us. As a professional artist for 30+ years, my love for art blends beautifully with my practice and I often use Visio Divina and other creative exercises in my sessions. I find that the arts help us connect our soul deeply to God because God is the creator and lover of our soul! As Imago Dei we are image bearers-made in the image of God, therefore we have great capacity for connecting creatively with God, whether by viewing or creating. Art goes beyond words and helps us experience God in rich ways.

In addition to individual direction, I offer group Spiritual Direction, Contemplative Life retreats, as well as the Contemplative Art Workshops and retreats. I am also certified to accompany others in the 9 month prayer journey with the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius.

I began full-time vocational ministry in 1979. In that time, I have served as an associate pastor in three different congregations in Texas and Arizona including eight years as a senior pastor. I completed a Masters of Ministry Certificate at St. Stephens University, St. Stephens, New Brunswick. In January of 2014, I published my first book, Darkness to Light, an account of my journey into clinical depression and my subsequent encounter with the love of God which brought a deep and lasting emotional healing. What is God up to in your life today? Where are you hearing, experiencing the Divine? How is your practice giving you life? Perhaps you're experiencing what Richard Rohr calls "second-half-of-life" spiritual questions? In which what sustained you all these years just isn't enough anymore?

As a spiritual director, I companion with you on your journey and relationship with God. I am not there to tell you what to do. I may, with prayerful discernment, offer perspectives and suggested practices. Together, we notice, name, and respond to the presence of God in your daily life. My primary role is to listen for the Spirit's movements in your life, and then–with you—jointly discern the experience. The Spirit is truly the director here!

I am an ELCA Lutheran pastor, currently ministering with Richfield Lutheran Church in south Minneapolis MN. Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degrees were through Luther Seminary, St Paul MN. Spiritual director training was through Christos Center for Spiritual Formation, Lino Lakes MN. In addition, I completed the Spiritual Formation for Congregational Leadership program and the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises through Christos. My training to direct the Extended Ignatian Exercises was through Sacred Ground Center for Spirituality, St Paul MN. I'm currently a facilitator in Christos' spiritual director training program. I've been in spiritual direction since 2001.

Practices I've found helpful to growing in union with God include Lectio Divina, Examen, the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, Centering Prayer, haiku, and zazen. I am a Benedictine oblate (OblSB) associated with St John's Abbey. I am conversant in Benedictine, Carmelite, Ignatian, Taoist, and Zen spiritualities and practices. Always mindful that contemplation isn't something we "do" as much as it is a way of life, a way of seeing.

As well as individual spiritual direction, I also direct the extended Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.

Before pastoring, I served in the Air Force, taught college, and worked as a research economist. I also am a Family Systems Theory facilitator, working with congregations, congregational leaders, and individuals. This "hat" curiously complements spiritual direction well.

I presently practice direction with both laity and clergy.

Our first meeting is pro bono. This is a time for us to get to know each other better, to explore what spiritual direction is and isn't, and get a feel for the journey ahead.

As a farmer's daughter and avid gardener, I have always loved experiencing the cycle of planting, growth, pruning and harvest, and then starting the next season. Whether this is in my garden or in the practice of spiritual direction, I have been blessed to see God's faithfulness through all seasons. My own spiritual journey with its twists and turns includes the seasons of doubt, struggle, longing, and grief over loss and then those wonderful and loving seasons of joy and fulfillment. In all these seasons of life, God has called me to help others toward spiritual freedom in Christ (2 Cor. 2:17) and to live blessedly in "joy and grief intertwined" (Isaiah 61:3).

My personal journey includes over 20 years in a corporate business career in the consumer food industry as well as an unexpected transition to ministry in my local church and a global ministry. I went from food for the tummy to food for the soul as I completed a MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at the Institute of Spiritual Formation, Talbot Seminary/Biola University. I continue to serve as a spiritual director at Biola's Center for Spiritual Renewal. In Fall 2021, I published a true story, The Kindness of Color: the story of two families and Mendez, et al. v. Westminster, the 1947 Desegregation of California Public Schools. It is the 1940s/WWII story of two kinds of racism and the kindness that brought hope: my family's journey from freedom to incarceration camps and the racism of segregated schools in California. This writing/publishing journey has shown me God's leading in new and exciting ways in yet another season of life.

About Me

As a spiritual director I help people listen with the Spirit to the story of the already-present activity of God in their lives in order to cultivate a deeper connection with him and to discern his movements in their life. I am a graduate of the C. John Weborg Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago and have been directing since 2009.

With over 34 years of pastoral experience, I enjoy working with pastors and other church leaders. I work with the Core Community of Imago Christi (www.imagochristi.org), which develops spiritual formation resources and coaches Christian leaders and churches. Imago Christi is a team of spiritual formation specialists within Novo (formerly CRM) (www.novo.org). And, I am a certified life coach.

I graduated from Baylor University (B.A.) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.). My wife Jill and I have two adult children. We make our home in North Carolina. I enjoy golf, and spending time in the mountains and at the beach.

About Me

I am a pastor, worship leader, and spiritual director at Vineyard One NYC, a small, diverse church in New York City. It’s one of my life’s deep joys to be able to accompany directees on their spiritual journeys, seeing them draw closer to God as God draws closer to them. I am co-founder of The Stillness Collective, an organization that creates spaces for busy people to find rest and renewal through contemplative practices and retreats. I hold certificates in Spiritual Direction and Ignatian Exercises Accompaniment from Sustainable Faith, where I am currently in training as a supervisor and instructor of spiritual directors. I also hold a PhD in English and American Literature from NYU and have taught at NYU, Barnard, Hunter College as well as worked as a faculty member and Writing Center Director at City Seminary of New York. My husband and I have three children, ages 12, 18, and 21, two very fluffy bunnies, and a fish.
