I am a veteran and semi-retired evangelical pastor, denominational administrator and spiritual director who finds great joy in companioning others in their personal attentiveness to the Holy Spirit’s presence in every aspect of their lives. My areas of interest and extensive experience include ministry transitions of all kinds, self-care and family life, spiritual practices, spiritual health, church vitality, ‘second half of life’ issues and racial righteousness discipleship. I am also an avid outdoorsman, eco-naturalist and blogger on nature as a spiritual pathway at www.rickmylander.com, and live with my wife Gail in Coupeville, Washington. Gail and I are parents of four married children and grandparents to a passel of grandkids. Enjoying quiet, holy and winsome yet serious conversation, I am open to spiritual direction in person whenever that is possible, but have numerous directees with whom I meet virtually.

Nothing would give me greater joy than to help you to follow Christ. My work in spiritual formation dates back to when the term itself was being introduced into the evangelical church. During the 90's I worked with seminary students at the Center for Christian Leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary. At the same time I earned a certificate of spiritual direction at Saint Thomas Theological Seminary in Denver under the tutelage of Howard Baker. I continued to practice the principles of people formation while the director of a leadership school in Albania. Perhaps it is helpful for you to know that God is helping me become more like Jesus in the crucible of a chronic and progressive neurological disease. Otherwise, I am employed full-time in various foreign projects.

I’ve had too much education: animal science at Cornell, international affairs at the Fletcher school/Tufts university, THM at DTS, and Doctor of ministry at DTS in cross cultural leadership.

My heart and passion is to create a safe space for men and women to experience a deep, abiding, transformational intimacy with God.

I have been serving in roles of shepherding, mentoring, intercessory prayer and spiritual direction for over thirty years. It was through my own journey with a spiritual director that I experienced God’s invitation to walk alongside others in the same way. I earned a Master of Arts in Theological Studies with a focus in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary in Saint Paul, MN. And I completed my certification for spiritual direction at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in Lino Lakes, MN.

I have experience in many forms of contemplative prayer, including Lectio Divina, centering prayer, the Prayer of Examen and the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. As a spiritual director, guide, and companion it has been such a joy and honor to walk alongside others listening, noticing and witnessing the ways God is present, speaking and moving in their lives. It is truly holy ground.

My passion as a spiritual director is to see people personally experience the deep love of God and live out a power-filled and intimate walk with Christ in our complex world. I enjoy walking alongside men and women of all ages and backgrounds in their spiritual journey.

My journey as a spiritual director has grown out of a deep desire for my inner healing through soul care to know God more intimately, to know myself, and to walk in my true identity. The Enneagram has been a helpful tool in my journey of transformation.

Besides offering spiritual direction, God has opened many doors for me to offer contemplative retreats in which we can enjoy solitude and silence while meditating on God’s word, praying, and hanging out with God.

I have served in ministry over the years in a variety of ways, such as speaking at retreats for women and church leadership, teaching Bible studies, leading homeschool fellowship groups, and leading small groups for listening and group spiritual direction. I offer workshops for soul care with spiritual disciplines, prayer, Enneagram Personality Styles, and Immanuel Journaling.

I received my Certificate of Spiritual Direction from North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. My husband and I have six grown children and now live outside of Chicago with our dog, Max. I love to take long walks in creation, read, and have deep conversations with family and friends over a good meal.

I treasure time listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit as I sit with my directees. Having personally gained from spiritual direction, I value the opportunity to be a soul-mate on another's spiritual journey.

I also lead the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, having been trained by Dale Gish.

After having lived in Japan for 30 years as a missionary, I am now based in the U.S. Besides teaching ESL and Japanese classes, I currently serve as Chaplain of the Webber Institute for Worship Studies (IWS), a low-residency school based in FL; Spiritual Director for Accessible Hope International based in FL and Sierra Leone, West Africa; and a Global Trainer in Spiritual Formation and Worship Renewal through Faith and Learning Int'l. I have a doctorate in worship studies from IWS and advanced certificates in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction from Moody Bible Institute. I have led and spoken at retreats in various countries and contexts.

I am an ordained Anglican priest and find great joy serving the people in my church, All Souls, in Indianapolis.

My daughter and granddaughter live near me, giving me joy-filled days. I love swimming, music, and time in nature, especially near the ocean. Of course, I love sushi and all things Japanese!

My own hunger and pursuit of the manifest presence of God has taken me on the inward adventure of solitude in the quiet of monastaries, and on geographical adventures as far away as Ethiopia, South Korea, and China — all of which draw me home to God in my own backyard. Hi, I'm Bronwen. I've been in direction myself for 15 years and have found it to be a bedrock of my spiritual journey. I'm grateful to be able to offer it to others. My training is through CFDM, and I am happy to meet in person or online. I am from Washington DC originally and live in Southern California.

Since everyone defines this a little differently, I will tell you my sense of direction. Counter to its name, a spiritual director is more of a companion on the spiritual journey rather than a coach or director. Directees and I meet once a month to listen and explore together where God is moving and at work. My job is primarily listening, reflecting, and asking. The directee's job is simply wanting to grow and being willing to explore. (And God's job is the rest).

Opening oneself to receive the loving presence of God in the “what is” of life is where inner transformation happens. It is my joy to offer a sacred, safe space for you to listen deeply to yourself and for the voice of the One who is love.

For 23 years, I lived and loved in a place called Kijabe, Kenya. There I raised 5 children, supported the work of my physician husband, and was gifted with deep friendships. At the same time, I felt the tension and stresses of ministry, living in a low resource setting, daily struggling with what was the “right thing to do” and often wondering if I was doing enough or even was enough in light of the vast needs around us. I was involved in prayer ministry, Bible Studies, orphan work, and community outreach. My own personal time in scripture and prayer was rich and life giving. And yet, there was a disconnect in my personal life that I couldn’t understand. God used pain and learning to sit quietly in a new way to draw me to God’s very specific, tender compassion for me, just as I was.

I completed my training as a spiritual director through CenterQuest School of Spiritual Direction. I look forward to welcoming any who desire more intimacy with God through the Holy Spirit. I am available to meet via Zoom or in person for those in Nashville, TN where I live now.

About Me

Following Jesus as a new creation and child of God requires not only being attentive to God’s holy and loving presence, but also being present to God. As a spiritual director, I seek to companion with directees with the hope of helping them discover how God has been and is attending to and directing their lives. Meeting one on one with directees involves providing them permission to be still in an environment conducive to prayerful conversation that is alert to God’s presence. As a friend of mine once said, “Spiritual direction is holding holy space for listening to God.” I also provide suggestions and tools to help directees continue responding to God’s movement in their lives between sessions. I currently meet clients both online (via Google Meets, Zoom or WhatsApp) and in person. Meeting frequency is usually once per month for one hour.

Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction trained and certified me as a spiritual director. Prior to beginning formal training, I received spiritual direction for two years through a spiritual director trained and certified by Lipscomb University, which I continue to this day. I tell folks inquiring about spiritual direction, “I wish I’d started meeting with a spiritual director twenty years sooner.”

In addition to being a certified spiritual director, I have a B.S. in Bible and Elementary Teacher Education from Johnson Bible College (now Johnson University). I received an M.S. in Adult Education with a Concentration in New Testament from Indiana University; the concentration credits earned through Johnson University.

I have over thirty-two years of experience as a preaching pastor within the independent Christian churches stream of the Restoration Movement. Four years were in a cross-cultural, bilingual setting outside the contiguous United States. My pastoral experience includes serving in rural, small town, and metropolitan settings. In June of 2024, I stepped aside from serving 24 years as the preaching pastor of my hometown church in order to devote more time to offering spiritual direction. I also devote time to serving as sabbatical advisor to individuals within church, para-church and other vocations.

For four years, I taught in a PreK-Grade 8 Christian school in Puerto Rico. In Indiana, I served as a regional program coordinator for a state scholarship support program for eighth through twelfth grade college-bound students. I was also the director of a new alternative public school for middle and high school students with chronic academic failure and behavioral issues.

For eight years I served on the board of directors of a campus ministry which involved two universities. I also served on the board of directors for a not-for-profit ministry committed to serving neglected, abused, and troubled youth, by providing homes and education to those who need hope in a desperate time in their lives.

My Christian parents raised my brother and me on a grain, hay, and livestock farm in southwestern Indiana. Within six weeks of graduating high school, I found myself in basic training with the United States Air Force. Intending to spend at least twenty years in military, surprisingly after only four years I separated from the Air Force to attend Bible college.

Within six months of graduating from high school, I married my high school sweetheart. We have three married children and six grandchildren with a seventh on the way.

I find walking, hiking, and backpacking to be life-giving activities. I also enjoy "all things" analog including writing with fountain pens and typing with manual, portable typewriters.

I received my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from the Institute for Spiritual Formation (ISF) at Talbot School of Theology, CA in 2007. I have since returned to Malaysia and for the last decade have been serving as the Director of the Institute for Christian Ministry (ICM) of TRAC (the English-speaking conference of the Methodist Church in Malaysia). I have also completed a 3-year training in an Ignatian spiritual companionship program with an ecumenical group. For as long as I can remember I have found life and purpose in listening to others. I am passionate about others experiencing the love and grace of God and I believe sharing our stories with another facilitates that. Are you in a challenging or transitional season of life or ministry? Are you busy serving those around you but know you need to pause and pay closer attention to how God is moving in your own heart? I have found that slowing down enough to share with a spiritual companion who is outside of my immediate sphere, yet who can listen prayerfully, is a rich spiritual practice. In such a time as this, we need these ‘be still’ moments more than ever to become aware of and appreciate God’s loving presence in the details of our lives.

As a trained spiritual director and over many years in ministry (serving in Canada, in the US, in Europe, and now back again) I have found much joy in walking with others who desire a deeper connection with God. I’ve seen the profound need in myself and others to intentionally and regularly create space to engage in spiritual practices that allow for listening and receiving from God and have enjoyed the blessing of meeting with a spiritual director in my own life. I welcome the privilege of accompanying others in their journey with the Lord.

The Word has come alive and through receiving spiritual direction and now being trained in spiritual direction my walk with the Lord is enriched, alive and life giving. My hope in spiritual direction is to journey with others into deeper experiential encounters with God, that result in lives lived with greater love and freedom. It is a delight to explore and discover with others how God has been and is intimately at work in their lives. I received an M.A. Spiritual Formation & Soul Care at the Institute of Spiritual Formation at Biola University. I also received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and am a Registered Nurse. With training in nursing, spiritual direction and psychology, I have a holistic and integrated approach in spiritual direction. I enjoy individual and group spiritual direction, as well as retreats for groups who seek a deeper experience of God and desire refreshment in their spiritual lives.

Sitting with a spiritual companion is one of the most beautiful experiences. As a spiritual director, there is a sweetness and delight in welcoming fellow companions into the quiet and stillness of a safe and sacred space. We sit down together in the loving presence of the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit, and notice where God is in your life story. Through contemplative prayer and conversation we listen, reflect, and discern together what the Holy Spirit may be showing you.

Throughout many years, I have journeyed on a continuous path of seeking and knowing God more day by day. Life in all its ordinary ways is where I have experienced the tensions of growing in my faith with God and others. The paths have been deepening experiences in God’s generous love, grace, goodness, through struggles and sorrows, sickness, healing, loss--the ordinary life of this world.

Melanie is from the Central Valley of California, and has lived for the last 15 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico with her husband Brian, three grown children and their spouses, and two grandchildren. She has a certificate in Spiritual Direction from Selah/Leadership Transformation International, a certificate in Spiritual Formation from Abide/LTI, a B.A. in Biblical Studies/Christian Education, and an A.A. in Behavioral and Social Sciences.

About Me

I have walked with Jesus for most of my life. In the past 20 years the journey has become almost a pilgrimage, moving in a sort of spiral with a sense of growing (and ebbing) movement of intimacy with the Triune Mystery of God. As part of this unfolding life, I married over 47 years ago and we together with God created two sons. We are grandparents to two teenagers!
Significant to my own spiritual formation have been particular rhythms and practices, including learning to press into solitude and silence, exploring contemplative postures of prayer, praying the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius (10 years ago), Spiritual Director Formation (8 years ago), membership of a Transforming Community (through the Transforming Center) and ongoing spiritual direction. I am currently co-leading a Confessional Community (through The CBK with Curt Thompson) and learning much about how to co-create and nurture outposts of beauty in our shared interpersonal neurobiology.
I look forward to walking with others as we both attend to the voice of the Spirit. I am currently apprenticing as an Ignatian guide and am able to accept retreatants for the Spiritual Exercises (19th annotation) while in training. In the near future, I will begin training in trauma recovery and healing, with a special focus on global Kingdom workers. I am part of a 12-step recovery group. In the past, I have offered contemplative retreats and am available to speak or lead retreats, particularly those focused on spiritual formation/transformation.
