About Me

Are you in the midst of decision-making and wish for someone to prayerfully listen as you seek to discern your way? Do you ever wish for someone who will compassionately hear and carefully hold the stories that you hesitate to tell others, while bringing them before God? Are you longing to know and grow in God more deeply, and to more often recognize His presence in your day to day life, no matter what the circumstances? I offer the ministry of contemplative spiritual direction to accompany you on your journey, contemplative in the sense that, while knowing that words are important, so is the silence that allows the space and time to hearken to the Spirit’s voice. I offer in-person spiritual direction in my home in the Dillsburg, PA area, as well as long-distance through Skype and Zoom platforms. I also offer the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius in Daily Life.
A bit about me…My husband and I share our rural life with 3 goats, 6 chickens, a seemingly infinite number of native bees, butterflies and birds, frogs, salamanders and wild mammals who come to our abundant gardens and small pond, evidence of my heart’s desire for restoration and nurture of the land as well as people. While steeped in contemplative, Ignatian spirituality and offering the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius to those whom God brings, the prayers of the ancient Celtic Christians that recognized and experienced God in the mundane and uncertainties of everyday life, in the wildness of the natural world and in the close Presence of Jesus, have become my soul’s own language.
My church background is varied. God called me into faith as a high schooler and, in fits and starts, that faith has grown through the years, including a three year gardening education assignment with Mennonite Central Committee in Botswana, raising my three home-educated children in the Brethren in Christ (an evangelical Anabaptist) denomination, serving at the altar in a small Episcopal church in the Washington, DC area and more recently, moving back to rural south-central Pennsylvania.
I am a contemplative, a naturalist and a gardener, making a place for God’s creatures to thrive and for people to find God’s Presence in the peace and quiet that surrounds our home. I also keep a blog entitled Earthy Blessings, https://earthyblessings.blogspot.com/ exploring the intersection of relationship with God and the natural world.
I have experienced enough grief and struggle in my life to realize that none of us makes it to heaven unscathed and know the value of the safe and comforting space that spiritual direction provides. I am trained in spiritual direction from Denver Seminary and also the Lanteri Center in Ignatian spiritual direction and the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius. Spiritual direction - both offering and receiving the safe and sacred space of soul care - has been one of the greatest gifts of my life journey thus far. I discovered it in the midst of a faith crisis, and it was my tether when I had lost what felt like everything. In what seems like another lifetime, I was a Registered Nurse (for a decade!); and have been a mother for about the same length of time.

I love to sit with people in the truth of their hearts and stories - complete with doubts, pain, questions, and joys. I believe that the imagination is a largely neglected aspect of us that God loves to work in and speak through; so I tend to invite people into exploring their creativity as a prayer of openness to God. I am familiar with many different streams of the church, and some of the strengths and pitfalls of them; so I have a particular desire to be-with people who are in-process in their faith journeys and church stories.

Hmm, that’s probably too big a question to answer, so let’s start with a few labels: I’m a father of five, an historical theology nerd, a ministry leadership veteran, a family trauma survivor, and a recovering anxiety addict.

I grew up in Colorado and love to live in the tension of paradox. My favorite answers to deep questions are, “Yes AND No,” “I don’t know,” and “What do you mean by that?” My favorite response to seemingly contradictory theological positions is “Yes.” And I absolutely love to travel (not to arrive, but to be in a car or an airplane going somewhere!)

As a spiritual director I resonate most with the Benedictine principle of hospitality: “to welcome everyone as I would Christ.” I love to create space for others that is free of shame and open to possibility. I love to witness the story of your life that you and God are writing together; to help you listen to God and deepen your connection to him.

I welcome directees of all kinds and have a special place for pastors and ministry leaders, mothers, fathers, young professionals, and exvangelicals or other Christians working through major transitions in their relationship with God and to religion.

On the note of transitions, I myself have been through a wide range of denominational and relational changes with God. I have landed in a somewhat eclectic, liturgical, confessional-Lutheran place, and I operate from that perspective unapologetically but open-mindedly.

As a GenX-er, I’ve seen our world transformed in ways I never could have imagined as a boy. These changes have brought amazing gifts. For example, I entered the world of self employment in the late 1990s, right as the Internet was emerging. It has allowed me to provide for my family by raising two children from babies to adulthood, all while working from home. That’s something which was unheard of when my dad built his career in the same industry a generation prior.

But, of course, the changes have also brought challenges.

Never in the history of humanity have our souls been more unsettled. The same phones that allow us to video chat with loved ones on the other side of the word are robbing us of our peace, our mental health and our ability to hear God’s voice.

To be clear, I’m no luddite. I love technology and have spent nearly three decades working as a creative consultant in the marketing and advertising industry. The bulk of my clients have been large tech companies (Microsoft, Amazon, Google) and I’ve seen firsthand what a double-edged sword social media, technology and corporate culture are as they continually challenge the Imago Dei within each of us.

Therein lies the focus of my Spiritual Direction practice. I don’t believe in getting rid of our iPhones and iPads forever. But I do believe in getting rid of them for an hour. Or a day. Or, occasionally, for a week. I also don’t think we should quit our corporate jobs to retreat from society to live in a remote hermitage like the ancient Desert Fathers and Mothers. But I do think we can learn a tremendous amount from them.

Because when we’re finally able to quiet the word, we’re able to find peace, fill our souls and hear the voice of our heavenly father who loves us so very deeply.

My name is Jonathan Bourbeau. I am a loved child of God who is learning to experience and extend God’s love in this adventure of life. I grew up in Michigan, USA but presently live seven months of the year in Latvia, Europe and the rest of the year in Steinbach, Manitoba.

Since 1993, I have had the privilege of working in Latvia with Greater Europe Mission. Church planting, student ministry, leadership and discipleship training are some of the ministries I have been involved in over the years. Before going to Latvia, I received my Bachelors through Prairie Bible College and then after being on the field for seven years, I returned to the North America to get my Masters of Arts at Columbia International University.

During the last few years, my focus has been in coming alongside and helping others flourish in all aspects of life and ministry: to be a Barnabas to Pauls and a Jonathan to Davids. In order to do this better, in 2016 I received training and eventually was certified as an associate coach (ACC) with ICF (International Coach Federation) through Creative Results Management.

My desire is to see people flourish in all areas of life, especially in their ministry and relationships. My greatest passion is to see people deepen their relationship with God which is the foundation for everything else. Enter Spiritual Direction. After a few years of experiencing deeper intimacy and growth with Jesus though the help of a spiritual director, I was invited to prayerfully consider being trained as a spiritual director. In many ways, this opportunity is what God has been leading me to, all throughout my life: to come alongside people in their walk with Jesus. I live seven months in

Now, you might have some question about spiritual direction. I would be surprised if you didn’t. I certainly did when I was asked whether I wanted to receive spiritual direction. The following are to help answer some of your questions.

**What is a spiritual direction session like?**

In short, a spiritual director helps the believer become aware of, understand and respond to God’s work, presence and Word in his life. Though the spiritual director does touch on the directee’s past, the focus is on his experience of God’s presence and work in the present. The desire is to grow deeper in intimacy with God and in Christ-likeness.

**Is the spiritual director directive in his approach?**

Actually, no. His approach is more like host or even better a co-host, creating space and being present while God reveals His own heart as well as the heart of the person being hosted. As the directee shares, the spiritual director prays, asks open questions, makes observations from listening, in order to help the directee take notice of what God might be doing or saying.

**How much do you charge for this service?**

I consider this ministry not as a professional service but rather a personal ministry to be given as a gift. Therefore, I don’t set a certain amount for the ministry session. I ask you to prayerfully consider what you might give as a donation to our ministry. If you can contribute whatever amount through Greater Europe Mission, I would be grateful. However, if you cannot give at this time, that is totally fine! We will meet anyway. God is more than faithful to provide.

After approximately 14 years serving in the Czech Republic as a missionary, I found myself restless and desiring a deeper life with God. This led me to much searching which resulted in returning to seminary (North Park Seminary in Chicago) to be trained in Spiritual Direction. I received my certification in 2010.

My main focus is to come alongside missionaries and pastors to listen and help them discern what God is doing in their life. In our walk with God we often struggle with doubts, disappointments, difficulty in prayer, and receiving for ourself the love and grace of God. I am a graduate of the Institute for Spiritual Formation and began offering spiritual direction in 2004.

I have been an Anglican pastor/priest for the last dozen years, and I am also a staff associate for Intervarsity's Graduate and Faculty Ministry. I used to be a university professor, and my studies were in Christian spirituality and historical theology.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

My name is Jeff Brady, and I'm honored to come alongside and be a spiritual companion as you explore your relationship with God, self, and others.

As a spiritual director, my main aim is to help you get in touch, find immediate and regular familiarity, and more deeply communicate and grow in confidence with God. I began receiving spiritual direction from a local priest in 2012 and was invited to participate in a number of Ignatian and other soul companioning retreats before eventually being asked to lead. God's guidance began revealing a fresh direction in my own ministry life towards the pursuit of becoming a spiritual director. I began a formal certification process in a program at Portland Seminary and have now offered one-on-one, couples, and small group spiritual direction within and beyond a church ministry setting for over six years now. Prayerful and companionable conversations and space are my main method of spiritual direction.

I have been in part and full-time ministry for 15+ years and am an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church. I studied psychology (B.S.) and Christian ministry (MDiv) at Indiana Wesleyan University and Wesley Seminary, respectively. In the last year, however, my wife and I have embarked on a new journey of ministry and understanding our relationship to the community we live in – we are now planting a network of house churches (Commoners House Church) in Marion, IN. The goal for this new direction is to cut through all the noise and the extras that have come to describe "churches" in our Western, capitalistic society. We want to pare Church down to its key essentials – Jesus Christ, love for God and neighbor, and helping all we come into contact with in ways they say they need.

This mindset and method of ministry has grown out of the interior work God has been doing in me for the past decade or so. After committing a sin of adultery in 2010 and nearly losing my family and losing my ministerial position and place in seminary, I have been on a journey of restoration and rediscovery since then as well as the journey of rebuilding that my wife and I have embarked upon together. Over the course of that time I've shared in that journey of deconstruction and reconstruction that so many have experienced, and walking deeper into the love of God has been a deepening source of gracious rescue.

I look forward to the opportunity to companion you as you look for God and discern the direction that has already been whispered to you by the Infinite.

I received my spiritual direction training through CFDM (Christian Direction and Formation Ministries). After years of being in direction myself, I felt a tug to go through the training to become a director. Spiritual direction has been a meaningful practice in my own journey with God. It has been a place for me to slow down and pay attention to where God has been moving in my life, or sometimes to question where I am not feeling anything!

I long to create this same kind of safe place for others. My desire is to hold space with individuals, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, as they seek to discover how and where God is uniquely working in their lives, or to process their questions and doubts without judgement or advice. In addition, having grown up as a pastor’s kid, I have great sensitivity to both the gifts and challenges a life in ministry bring.

I live in Orange County, where I relish any amount of time with my husband and mostly grown children. I especially love to travel and experience new adventures with them. In my spare time, you can also find me enjoying the outdoors, baking, or reading a good book.

David Brannen is an ordained Anglican minister who served 31 years in local church ministry before retiring in 2021. He continues to minister as a spiritual director to individuals and small groups.

He grew up in the Atlanta area and worked for years in business and public relations before being called to ordained ministry. He earned a master of divinity degree (M.Div.) from Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge Pennsylvania, and served for 14 years on the staff of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, He is the founding pastor of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Versailles, Kentucky, where he served for 17 years before retiring.

David also holds a certificate in spiritual direction from the Christos Center for Spiritual Formation (christoscenter.org) and is a member of the Evangelical Spiritual Director’s Association (graftedlife.org).

His interest in becoming a spiritual director grew out of his own experience working with a director after serving for years in ministry without one. The deepening of David’s own experience of the Lord – and the impact on his ministry – was so profound that he felt called to become trained in spiritual direction so he could offer that same gift to others.

David and his wife, Claire, have been married more than 40 years. They have three grown children, two sons-in-law, and a grandson. The Brannens live in New Albany, Indiana, a community in the Louisville metro area. David’s hobbies include following college football, running and golf.

Mitzi Brautigam is a graduate of the Soul Shepherding Institute and has a certificate in Spiritual Direction. Mitzi has a strong liturgical church background, was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship for over 15 years, has led numerous women's Bible and Christian book study groups, currently serves on an inner healing ministry team at an evangelical church, and participates actively in the Presence Project. Mitzi is a ferocious reader of Christian classics – both traditional and contemporary (Willard, Smith; Hudson, Nouwen, etc.). With an education in psychology, she has a lifelong interest in listening and helping people heal and grow.

Mitzi enjoys both giving and receiving Spiritual Direction, finding it extremely helpful in her growth and healing from childhood traumas. About Me

In my late thirties, I noticed that God was up to something new in my life. Until then my sense of following Christ meant seeking to know a lot about him and working to trust and obey him as best I could. But a longing for “more” kept surfacing. I longed for a deep wholeness, for an awareness of God’s presence, for joy, for a beauty that permeated life, for compassion for others and myself. But I had no idea how to get there. The saying, when the pupil is ready the teacher arrives, proved true in my own life. The need for spaciousness and rest in God's presence and the fierce gift of pain forced me to ask on a very personal level: did I really trust the goodness and presence of the Triune God?

Mercifully, through the spiritual practices of Lectio Divina, listening prayer, silence, and through my first spiritual director, I learned (and am still learning) a new way of living my life in God. As I changed, I realized I wanted to learn to be an attentive and prayerful companion to others as they live into this with God life.

I have been particularly shaped by three profound gifts. Studies at Regent College (Vancouver, British Columbia) on the wisdom of the early church fathers, the history of Christian Spirituality, contemplative listening, and the writings of Christian mystics continue to feed my desire to know God with my whole being.

Second, the gift of friends along the way led to helping form JourneyMates, a spiritual companioning small group ministry that now has groups in five different cities. Through JourneyMates and through the speaking and writing I do, others began to ask me to companion them in their spiritual journey.

Finally, my training and now work with Selah (Leadership Transformations' Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction) have contributed to my growth.

It is a joy to me to befriend through spiritual direction those who ask me to accompany them on their journey with God.
