I love to hold space for people as they reflect on the journey of their souls. God won my heart over 30 years ago during a particularly difficult time in my life. Ever since I have been drawn to conversations exploring where God intersects with the joys and challenges of real life. In 2016, I began having these conversations as a spiritual director.

I believe each of us is God’s beloved and the spiritual journey is primarily a journey of allowing the love of God to find its way into deeper and deeper parts of our heart. My joy is to provide a safe environment to engage with God right where you are. No performing, no pat answers. Just making holy space for you and God.

I am a Seattle native who graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Psychology and Speech Communications. I received my spiritual direction training through SoulFormation’s Academy and School of Spiritual Direction and am an active member of their community of spiritual directors. I also offer supervision to spiritual directors and facilitate Space for God retreats. My husband and I live in community near the University of Washington campus and have 3 grown/almost-grown kids.

Ruth is an artist, musician, and a certified Spiritual Director through Peacock Soul Care (PSC). She is honored to have graduated with the first cohort of PSC Spiritual Directors in the spring of 2024 as the first Asian American. She received her B.A. from Eastern University, where she learned about spiritual formation and social justice, and her M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary with an emphasis in Biblical Counseling.

During her studies with PSC, the Lord inspired her to design and lead children/youth spiritual retreats (first launched in the summer of 2023) that merge the arts with spiritual formation. Ruth is passionate about prayer, spiritual formation, healing from trauma, the arts, and justice, and is excited to pursue her D.Min. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in The Arts, Ministry, and Mission starting in 2025.

It is my passion and calling to journey with Christ followers and care for them through prayerful listening. Together we discern the presence of God in their lives. I desire to and am delighted to see the fruit of spiritual direction by the work of the Holy Spirit demonstrated in the directee’s growth in prayer life, openness to God and in embracing who they are in Christ.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I have been residing in Pasadena, California with my husband for almost 30 years during which time I had served in our home church in children, youth, young adults and church board ministries. This gave me an insight into the challenges faced by and the deep longing of serious followers of Christ and church leaders. I have cross-cultural ministry experiences and speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. We are proud grandparents of two beautiful kids.

I received my training in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at Talbot School of Theology and I currently serve as staff spiritual director at Biola University.

Henri Nouwen describes hospitality as, “...primarily the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend…Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place.” I approach spiritual direction as a form of hospitality, a place to help you open up your heart and soul to the hospitality of God. My desire is not to change you, but to listen with you for the Holy Spirit’s invitations and promptings for greater intimacy, connection, healing, and well being. One of my favorite quotes is by Zora Neale Hurston, “Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.” I think that quote beautifully captures the work of the Holy Spirit in direction. The Spirit woos your soul to come out of hiding and into the truth of who you are before a God who lavishly loves you.

Some tidbits about my life: I’ve been married since 2000 and have two daughters, one of whom has special needs, both of whom I homeschool (one of the most exhausting, but fulfilling joys of my life). I consider myself an amateur naturalist in that I love all things related to nature, enjoy exploring the great outdoors, and then journaling my nature surprises. Need to name a cloud formation or local bird? Then, I’m your gal! I’m an early 20th Century British literature lover and an all around Anglophile. Additionally, I love to putter with various art techniques/mediums to create work that only a mother could love. And I do believe that laughter is the best medicine.

I received my MA in Christian Apologetics from Biola University in 2005 and my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from the Institute of Spiritual Formation, Talbot Seminary in 2015. My husband is an artist, my sister is a writer, and other family members are in the entertainment industry. Thus, I have a heart for creatives as well as for parents (especially those with atypical /neurodivergent children), and women.

Hello beloved one! I am a Korean-American spiritual director located in Southern California. With a Master's in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot School of Theology, I've been trained to walk with people from different backgrounds in various stages of life. To name a few groups, I've worked with collegians as a staff member at my church for the past 5 years, youth students of various backgrounds, adults navigating new transitions, and pastors as an active lay leader and administrative staff member.

My passions include learning about different cultures as a frequent participant of short-term missions, providing soul care to ministers and lay leaders, developing curriculum to disciple young adults, and creating retreat plans for those seeking solitude. I am a Korean-American spiritual director located in Southern California. With a Master's of Divinity with an emphasis in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care, I've been trained to walk with different types of people in various stages of life.

Hello! My calling into spiritual direction began at a low point in my life. I was discerning a job change, feeling overwhelmed with life and struggling with my own limitations. God not only helped me through that dark time with the help of a spiritual director, He inspired me to become a spiritual director to help others as I’ve been helped (2 Corinthians 1:3-7). With that said, I am convinced spiritual direction is for everyone; it’s a necessary part of our Christian discipleship. You don’t have to be at a low point in your life as we are all in need of prayerful companionship, whether we recognize it or not!

Spiritual Direction is help given by one Christian to another that enables him/her to pay attention to God’s personal communication, respond in ways that deepen intimacy with God and to live out the consequences of that relationship in this world. It is prayerful companionship, hospitable space - grounded in grace and rooted in trust. In a world of chaos, we offer contemplative tools that help us notice, listen and discern the presence and movements of God. Since the focus is not on advice, problem-solving or goal-setting, we exercise restraint with our personal views, providing a wide open space for you to meet with God and invite the Holy Spirit’s work within. Spiritual direction is a way of life. The Lord desires to be with us in season and out.

Jodi Chung graduated with a BS in Neurobiology from The University of Kansas, an MDiv from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and is a certified Spiritual Director through Selah. Since 2006 she has served in youth and adult ministries at West Houston Chinese Church and Parkway United Methodist. She currently serves at Wheaton Chinese Alliance Church in the Chicago area and an organization for women called Refuge for Strength (https://www.refugeforstrength.com). She is a conference speaker, spiritual director, podcast guest on multiple podcasts, and the mother of three adopted children from Henan, China. These days, we live in a world filled with noise, unrest, busyness and fear. The days can be so long, filled with hectic schedules, responsibility and uncertainty, leaving many feeling exhausted, anxious and angry. And yet, the years flit away quickly, always plugged in yet leaving us seemingly disconnected from God, others and ourselves. This daily life has a way of distracting us and we don’t always know how to detach and hear the voice of God calling us the Beloved. Instead, we become consumed with other voices that try to tell us who we are. Henri Nouwen says that we mistakenly believe that we are what we have, we are what we do, or we are what others say about us.

Here, through spiritual direction, I hope, you will find a safe place to land – to unplug, to disconnect from the busyness, to detach from the activity, for just a moment. This is a time to tune into the Voice that created us into being and calls each of us beloved.

Crisis hit my life nearly 10 years ago. Although I had been walking with Jesus for nearly 30 years, my life with God became dry and my faith rhythms were no longer sustaining me. I knew the “right” theology, and the “right” Scripture passages. I knew a lot about God. And yet, my heart and my life were far from reflecting and living the knowledge I carried in my head. But God, in His infinite kindness, led me on a journey of spiritual formation and spiritual direction that grounded me in His love and in His Presence. During this time of crisis, spiritual direction, listening groups, the Ignatian Exercises, contemplative prayer and the Enneagram became anchors that nurtured my hungry soul and led me into the reality of God’s care and nearness to me. I experienced listening and being listened to in a new way – as a love that sees without judgment or carrying agendas of fixing. I began to recognize God’s activity and invitations in my own life. It was then that God awakened the desire within me to offer this same gift of listening and unconditional love to others.

My training includes a Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Supervision certificate from TLC (Transformational Listening Center), an Advanced Spiritual Formation certificate from Moody Bible Institute and certification as an Integral Coach. I specialize in the Enneagram as a powerful tool of self-knowledge as well as the Ignatian Exercises, contemplative prayer practices and spiritual exercises. I have also worked as a Financial Controller for a small business for the past 10 years, a space where God often invites me to bring my contemplative practices into action.

My home is a hub of activity and creativity, a welcome respite for our family, which includes 6 children, 4 married, 8 grandchildren, and many extended family and friends. As a 1 on the Enneagram, I’ve learned the importance of engaging my creative side and do so by reading, cooking and baking from scratch, learning new things, quiet contemplation, taking long walks in nature and engaging in sustainable living practices for my family. I look forward to getting to know you!

I love to encourage others, to help people pay attention to God’s activity and invitations in the midst of their lives, and to see people connect to God in meaningful ways.

Initially pursuing Spiritual Direction training for my own growth and personal spiritual journey, I discovered a way to companion others and listen in deeper ways that “fits” my heart for people.

My experiences of God’s faithful provision, strength – and, yes, even joy – in times of loss, in ministry, and through life with a chronic illness have fueled my passion to help others notice and name God’s presence and activity in their lives.

I grew up in Southern California and, after accepting Christ as my savior in high school, received a bachelors of art in Human Development, with a minor in psychology, from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1991. I was heavily involved with the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship group there, where I met my college sweetheart! We married shortly after graduating and lived in Sacramento for 32 years. We now reside in Burlington, NC. My husband is a mechanical engineer, and, after working as a preschool teacher for several years, I became a stay-at-home mom and then homeschooled my three sons from preschool through 12th grade. All three of my children had special needs – Asperger’s Syndrome, stuttering and delayed learning, and auditory processing and sensory issues. Dealing with their issues involved many years of prayer, hard work, and specialized teaching and therapies, but all 3 of my sons have now graduated college and are each living out their individual callings in the serving industry, youth ministry and philosophy/writing. I have seen the incredible power of God to bring about deep transformation and redeem the years of pain, struggle, and heartache!

When my youngest son graduated, I experienced a new calling into the spiritual disciplines, and from that, into spiritual direction. As I received spiritual direction, I became drawn to this amazingly narrow, but incredibly deep ministry of companioning a fellow believer along their unique journey with God. I participated in Leadership Transformations Inc’s two year Selah training program in contemplative spiritual direction and graduated in May, 2021.

I have a strong passion for building connections, intimacy and self-awareness between people, and between people and God. I love meeting one-on-one with someone and searching with them for what God is up to in their lives. I feel my calling is to listen well, pray deeply, suggest observations, ask questions, and offer opportunities into silence and awareness of what the Holy Spirit is doing. I also have a deep interest in apologetics and worldview and have received a Certificate in Christian Apologetics from Biola University and taught a worldview/apologetics course to high-schoolers for 10 years. I have also gained much from personal study into attachment theory and how it impacts marriage, as well as into different types of personality testing (Enneagram, Myers-Briggs, Strength-finder, etc.). It brings deep joy for me to come alongside others as they seek to grow in their relationship with God. I continually marvel at how the Holy Spirit works uniquely with each person as they seek to discover His presence and care, in the midst of their life story. I received my training in spiritual direction through the MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care program at the Institute for Spiritual Formation, Talbot Seminary.

After years of missions and pastoral ministry with my husband, I have a special place in my heart for those in full time ministry, missionaries, and also for those in the healthcare professions (I hold an RN license though I am not now practicing). I am currently serving as a staff spiritual director at Talbot Seminary and am also available for direction online or at my home in Moreno Valley, CA.

My husband and I spent 11 years serving as church planters in Ecuador, with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. We worked with college students, women, and small group ministry leaders. My heart was forever changed by the beautiful people we served. We returned to Southern California in 2001 and planted a church in Moreno Valley, CA, where we continued to minister until 2018, while we also traveled extensively training and mentoring pastors and leaders in developing small group ministries in the church. We are currently serving in a Spanish speaking congregation, in Lynwood, CA, helping launch their small group ministry. It has been a great blessing to be back in Spanish ministries.

My husband and I have been married for 32 years and are appreciating the season of the empty nest. We have 3 lovely, adult daughters, 2 grandsons and a 3rd on the way! I love playing with my grandsons, family gatherings, enjoying coffee with a friend, spending time with God in the beauty of nature, and reading a good book.

For me, spiritual direction is similar to going home once a month - I get to sit on the front porch with my Dear Ones and have an unhurried conversation about how we are doing together. In sessions with directees, I seek to be a gentle companion, holding the door open for recognizing and responding to God's movement in their lives.

My background includes a Masters in Agency Counseling and work as a bereavement counselor; I recently completed the Selah Certificate in Spiritual Direction. I am also a graduate of the Renovare Institute for Spiritual Formation. I enjoy reading, gardening, experiencing spiritual community, and spending time with our family of young adults and their spouses.
